“The esteemed sophomores of Jesuit High contrived and executed a successful and very illustrious dance in the Jesuit Auditorium. Doug Deffari again demonstrated, with the assistance of Betty Domino, the essence of Jitterbugging ability to the tune of a sizzling recording. Of the dance as a whole, nothing but good can be said and we might add that the sophomores are to be commended for their generous donation of part of the proceeds of the dance to the seniors to assist in the building of their lounge.”

The Roundup – Thanksgiving Issue
Constitution and By-Laws adopted. Club officers elected On Jan. 28 a dinner honored the football team. Mayor Woodall Rogers served as chairman.

Bishop Lynch writes the Mother's Club to compliment them on landscaping the school. “In this very meritorious undertaking you are doing a great deal to attract attention to this wonderful institution, to make our Catholic people proud of it and entice others to esteem it as an outstanding attractive spot in this fair city.”

Ed Maher (first lay faculty member ‘42) gave the football team its nickname “Rangers”; he once lived in the city of Ranger, Texas and liked the town.
Veteran Paul Tyson, who has more Texas high school championships than any other coach, named head football, basketball, and baseball coach
Commencement was held in the high school auditorium. This was the first class to complete 4 years at Jesuit. The Bishop Lynch trophy was awarded to Joseph Leverette.

The debate team was formed as part of the Philothespic Society in Jesuit's first years. It begins to take on a larger, independent role.
The Roundup Commencement Issue 47
Football Banquet The Dads' Club honors the football squads with a banquet at the school cafeteria. P.C. Cobb, Director of Athletics of Dallas schools, is the principal speaker.
Letters are awarded to 17 players and the student manager at the annual banquet for the football team in the school cafeteria with Mayor Woodall Rodgers serving as toastmaster.

Held in Waco. Interscholastic League would not qualify Jesuit as contestants but allowed us to play for "comment only". The school was pleased with the report on playing in prepared numbers and sight reading performance.

Don Rossi from Michigan State college is the new football coach and the American Legion baseball coach. He was a major in the army and previously director at Kelly Field & Randolph in San Antonio. On June 2 the Dad's Club welcomed him with a lunch provided by Mr. Neuhoff.

The Roundup reports on Jesuit's spirit mascot dog. The November 1952 includes an article about his death.
"For two weeks Ewing Contractors have hauled 2200 truck loads of dirt to back part of our upper campus. This completes leveling project on upper campus - begun by Cowdin & ? continued by City. Our upper campus extends nearly 200 yards from Oak Lawn to back 'cliff.'" Suggestions to raise funds all rejected: 1) Mr. Folzenlogen invented a new pipe filter and offered all rights if we promoted it. Fr. General rejected idea. 2) Baltimore Hotel to buy 1/2 property at $125000. 3) Junior College suggested. 4) Sell entire property. Accepted if could get $1,500.000. Renovations over the summer. No details.

The first Jazz Band to play at Homecoming and Junior/senior prom consisted of Buddy Giangrosso on piano, Dan Prewitt, on sax (L) leader and organizer, Ronald Voegtle on sax (R) and Dr. Francis Miranda on drums. All men are 1951 graduates. Dr. Miranda sent this picture with a note about the details to the Archives.

4th Annual Southwestern AAU Senior Boys Basketball Tournament.
Dad's Club executives approve a campaign supported by a brochure. Cover design by John Malone. Before the brochure was printed, a letter sent to 25 special contributors garnered only 5 responses. A number of other appeals failed.
