The Rangers opened their 2026 season on the road on Friday night, falling to Sachse 52-24 at Homer B. Johnson Stadium. The Rangers moved the ball well at times, finishing with 346 yards of total offense and 23 first downs, but five interceptions and an inability to slow down the Mustangs’ ground game proved too costly to overcome.

The night also marked the debut for new defensive coordinators Coach Waggoner and Coach Meek, who took over the Rangers’ defense heading into this season. It was a tough first test against a Sachse offense that piled up 472 total yards.
Early Wins
Jesuit came out firing on the opening drive. Quarterback JP Livingstone ’28 connected with Joseph Konings ’27 for a 52-yard gain on just the second play of the game, then found him again two plays later for a 25-yard touchdown, with Konings out-leaping his defender and getting a foot down in the back of the end zone. It gave the Rangers an early 7-0 lead and set the tone for a big night from Konings, who finished with a career-high 122 receiving yards on seven catches. Livingstone ended the game 15-of-27 for 210 yards and a touchdown.
Sachse Answers
Sachse answered and took the lead, but Jesuit clawed back to tie the game at 14 on a 20-yard touchdown run from Ty Daboub ’27. That would be as close as the Rangers would get. The Mustangs took over from there, scoring three more times in the second quarter to build a 35-14 halftime lead, and Jesuit was never able to close the gap in the second half.

On defense, Linebacker Simon McGoldrick ’27 paced the Rangers with 11 tackles, including one tackle for a loss. Kicker Kelby Bishop ’29 was flawless in his role, connecting on a 35-yard field goal and all three of his extra-point attempts. Lastly, Sachse finished the night with 472 total yards, 274 of them on the ground, as the Mustangs’ rushing attack proved to be the difference.
