On Wednesday, March 11, 2026, current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors voted for Michael Tobin ’27 and Sutton Wall ’27 as the next Student Council President and Vice President, respectively.

Background

Michael Tobin is a member of the Jesuit Swim Team, Jesuit Hope Squad, and a member and recruitment officer for DECA at Jesuit. In addition, Michael already serves on the Student Council as the Class of 2027’s president. Sutton Wall is also a member of Hope Squad on top of being a part of Godly Guys and an Admissions Ambassador. Sutton also assists with broadcasting at Jesuit.

Looking Back

For both Michael and Sutton, Ranger Day 2025 is their favorite accomplishment of Student Council from last year. The theatrical and dramatic skits and thrilling competitions worked together to create a very memorable and rewarding experience. Although Sutton was not on the Student Council last year, he’s still able to recognize and appreciate the effort and care that was put into what was done in order to achieve what they did last year.

Michael and Sutton have identified two areas to hone-in on for next year while looking back to last year. The first is being able to stay in touch with students and coordinate through effective communication. The second is being engaged with faculty and teachers as being able to stay connected with them will also help to improve the Student Council’s efficiency next year.

Looking Ahead

With many new people on Student Council, Michael and Sutton are eager to get to work with new people who will have different insights into what they do. In addition to this, there are a couple of events and programs Michael and Sutton hope to accomplish next year on Student Council.

Student Council Week

The first major event Michael and Sutton are interested in is a special-themed week between Homecoming, Ranger Day, and the Homecoming Football Game. The week would be similar to Hope Week in the sense that each day would have special events or activities to engage with students.

Athletics

The other major topic of focus for Michael and Sutton is increasing student involvement and support in Jesuit athletics, especially for sports and events that are lower in attendance or don’t garner as much student involvement as they could. They believe that they can do this through social media posts on Instagram where they can communicate upcoming sports events as well as themed nights for specific games.

However, it’s important to understand that as the Student Council, they are unable to make drastic or fundamental changes to Jesuit such as changes to school policy, as this is not their role.

“We’re just trying to make [Jesuit] better, so we’re not [going to] make promises that we can’t make.” -Sutton Wall ’27

Final Thoughts

Due to the nature of Student Council, none of the events or initiatives discussed in this article are guaranteed due to the necessary approval and work required to make them happen. However, Michael and Sutton both shared valuable pieces of advice on how to grow as leaders. For Sutton, it was the importance of being your authentic self while around people.

“You shouldn’t…try and be something you’re not, because people can tell a lot of the time.”  -Sutton Wall ’27

For Michael, he stressed the importance of maintaining a positive and welcoming presence wherever you go.

“One thing I’m big on is just being present…to the people that you see throughout the day….Those little interactions mean a lot to everybody.” -Michael Tobin ’27
