Jesuit Freshman Football Teams: A Season of Growth and Team Comradery

-

Throughout the fall semester at Jesuit, all students enjoy sports, regardless of if they are playing or not. As a football player for the Freshman Football team, I can confirm that playing football has been a ton of fun. Comprising of football for freshmen, there are three different teams: the Gold, Blue, and White teams.

White Team

The White team is a filled with development, regardless of what anyone says. Currently, they have a record of 4-2, first playing Allen twice, then defeating VR Eaton, Plano, and Coppell. I chose to ask Coach Wood, a White team coach, a few questions about this up-and-coming team. Coach Wood believed that the best part of coaching Freshman Football was, “Getting to connect with kids outside of the classroom.” In terms of his vision for the White team, he believes that it involves

“Getting kids experience in playing football and all the comrader[ies they can form].”

These quotes demonstrate Coach Wood’s enjoyment and dedication to helping the Freshman White team succeed and grow.

Blue Team

The Blue team is a solid team, considering they have won most of the games they have played so far with a record of 4-1. In terms of coaching, the staff is comprised of a mix of Gold and Blue team coaches. Additionally, the Gold and Blue teams practice together, rather than individually like White team, where it would be Blue’s offense versus Gold’s defense or vice versa. I had the opportunity to ask Alex Magyar ’29 a few questions. One specific question that I asked him was about his vision for the Blue team, to which he answered,

“I think the blue team will do good, but it will be hard work [to do so].”

Gold Team

The Gold team is a very hard-working team with great talent. Every practice, I see them drilling harder than the Blue and making sure every play counts. However, at the time of my interviews, they had only played one game. I asked a Gold team player, Harrison French ’29, a few questions. I first asked about how the current season is going, to which he replied that “it is currently 0-1 for [them] because [they] have not been able to play any other team. [He] think[s they] will win [their] next game and be able to make up for that loss.” I also asked what the best play he has seen so far, and he told me it was a “fumble recovery made by Jimmy Cusick ’29.” The Gold team is now 3-1 with an amazing win over Irving. Overall, they are dedicated to what they are doing and will definitely grow massively over these final few games of Freshman Football.

Final Thoughts

Throughout the time I have spent learning more about the Freshman Football teams, I have noticed dedication present in every player. I see each player working harder each day at practice and finishing on a high note. The White team is definitely going to grow significantly from their initial loss and any future losses at the start of the season. The Blue team is poised to improve and will continue to amaze everyone with their performance. Lastly, the Gold team will keep getting better as they play more games, making up for any current or future losses. In conclusion, I believe each team will only improve from how they have started and played so far.
