With the wrestlers slimming down for tournaments once again, and running off their extra fat from Christmas, it’s worth looking back at the achievements of the season to see what the team has built towards in Coach Ryan Menard’s 20th year with Jesuit.
McKinney Boyd Duel
McKinney Boyd, often a formidable opponent for the Rangers, entered Walsh gym and left defeated, 54-24, by the boys in Blue and Gold on November 13.
Kingston Stephens ’26 at 106 pounds led the Rangers to a win in the first match of the year, with a quick pin 1:20 into the match. Owen White ’25 struck quickly after that, with a 30-second pin to put the Rangers into winning distance. Alex Shomin ’26, Noah Nicosia ’26, and Mike McCoy ’27 all secured pins to solidify the victory for the Rangers.
The Arlington Invitational
The Varsity squad went out to Arlington on November 16 to get the ball rolling on the Rangers season, and earned an impressive medal in a long tournament.
Kingston Stephens ’26 finished with a bronze in the 106-bracket, impressively winning his third place match with a dominating 15-0 decision over a wrestler from Woodrow Wilson. Besides him, Alex Shomin ’26 also had an impressive performance, with a 4-2 tournament record.
Richardson Roundup
The team broke out into medals on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, with three gold medalists powering through their opponents. Kingston Stephens ’26, Alex Shomin ’26, and Noah Nicosia ’26 won their respective weight classes, with Stephens improving to 10-1 on the season with three victories at the tournament. Shomin cruised through his opponents, winning by pin over a Wylie wrestler and a 14-5 major decision over a Princeton High wrestler.
JV also had quite the showing, with Noah Wittenberg ’25 securing gold, Chase Brown ’27, and Patrick Seefeldt-Tavares ’28 earning silvers, as well as Evans Senvalds ’26 closing out the medals with bronze.
Flower Mound Marcus Duel
In an intense outing for the team, the Rangers dropped a narrow 40-37 decision at Flower Mound Marcus on the fifth of December, despite securing six head-to-head wins, sparked by a 15-0 Kingston Stephens ’26 victory by technical fall.
War Games
On the seventh of December, the Ranger wrestling team went out to Frisco Centennial to hopefully bring home medals. Kingston Stephens again led the charge for the team, bringing home a silver medal at 106 pounds, winning three matches along the way. Luke Bloodworth ’26 finished as the second-best Ranger Wrestler, placing fourth in the 190 pound weight class, securing a technical fall in his first match.
Paul Aubrey Christmas Tournament
At R.L. Turner High School in Carrollton, the fall season came to a close with two medalists on the 16 of December, that being Kingston Stephens once again, with a first place finish, and Jake Daboub ’25, with a third place finish.
Stephens went 3-0 with a pin over a Bishop Lynch wrestler, a technical fall over a R.L. Turner Wrestler, and another technical fall over a wrestler from North Mesquite to secure a dominant first place finish.
Jake Daboub, wrestling at 157 pounds, won all of his matches by fall, winning two matches in a push to the semifinal. After suffering a loss, he battled his way back to the medal, winning over a Plano wrestler and a victory in the consolation finals over rival Bishop Lynch.
