On January 11, Jesuit Swimming and Diving hosted its first ever Jesuit Invitational. The meet was supposed to feature Frisco Wakeland, Strake Jesuit, and St. Stephen’s. However, due to the snowstorm that hit the Dallas Area that week, Wakeland and Strake Jesuit ultimately made the decision to pull out of the meet, leaving a dual between Jesuit and St. Stephen’s. Jesuit would pull out a 219-34 win, remaining unbeaten on the season. Additionally, the Rangers continue an 18-dual meet win streak stretching back to the beginning of the 2023-24 school year.
Highlights
200 Medley Relay – Jesuit went 1-2 in this event. The “A” Relay of Flyn Hughes ’25, Grant Wilton ’27, Drew Shippey ’27, and Sebastian Suwanda ’26 won the event with a time of 1:44.69. For the “B” Relay, JP McCosker ’27 led off with a 29.58 backstroke leg. He was followed by Porter Pope ’28 on breaststroke (31.19) and Michael Hasenfratz ’25 on butterfly (26.22). Anchoring the relay was Charlie Plumber ’28, who split a 24.87 freestyle leg. They combined for a time of 1:51.86.
200 Individual Medley (IM) – Jesuit would take the sweep in this event. Jonah Ruhl ’27 won the 200 IM in a time of 1:58.88. Fellow Sophomore Drew Shippey came in second, finishing with a time of 2:07.11. Yet another sophomore, Michael Tobin ’27, would come in third with a time of 2:15.46. Rounding out the top-4 was George Weaver ’26, touching the wall at a 2:24.28.
100 Freestyle – Jesuit showcased its incredible depth in this event by taking the first four spots in it. Sophomore Jonah Ruhl won the event in a time of 48.20. Sam Kennington ’26 followed Ruhl, touching the wall in second with a time of 50.06. Third for the Rangers was Jackson Addison-Jordan ’26 with a time of 51.53. Freshmen Porter Pope came in fourth, finishing with a time of 55.69.
100 Butterfly – One of their stronger events, Jesuit showed its depth at this position. Luke Lary ’26 would take the win in the event, finishing with a time of 53.59. He barely out touched his teammate Drew Shippey, who finished at a 53.79. A pair of seniors finished third and fourth, as Flyn Hughes touched the wall at a 55.13, and Michael Hasenfratz finished with a 1:01.49.

Looking Ahead
With the win against St. Stephen’s, now comes time for Rangers to enter the postseason. The postseason run began with the JV District 7-6A Championships, ending with a dominant victory for Jesuit’s Junior Varsity squad. The Varsity postseason begins on January 31 with the District 8-6A Championships. They will be held at the Alfred J. Loos Aquatic Center and will feature rivals such as JJ Pearce, where the Rangers will seek to claim their second consecutive District title. The top six swimmers in each event advance to the Region 2-6A Championships, which will be at the Lewisville ISD Westside Aquatic Center. There, the Rangers will face a group of teams that include longtime foes Flower Mound and Coppell. From there, qualifiers for the Blue & Gold will head down to the University of Texas’ Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center for the UIL 6A State Championships to conclude the season.
