As Highland Park slips back down to 5A, Jesuit swimming and diving athletes looked forward to another round at the Tollway Tussle. On Thursday, November 7, Jesuit Swimming and Diving defeated Highland Park 141-45 at the Gull. Their seasonal record increased to 3-0, adding up to a total of 13-0 since their most previous loss in the 2022-23 Season. While this continues to be an annual rivalry, many Jesuit swimmers who also participate in club swimming maintain great friendships while training with fellow HP club swimmers. Getting to compete against their club teammates added a sense of friendly rivalry to the competition and made the meet a very enjoyable experience for these swimmers.

Notable Swims
200 Medley Relay
This race came down to the wire between Jesuit and HP. Jesuit’s “A” Relay (1:40.76) of Flyn Hughes ’25 (Back), Jonah Ruhl ’27 (Breast), Luke Lary ’26 (Fly), and Sam Kennington ’26 (Free) out-touched HP’s “A” Relay (1:42.37) by around a second and a half. In third would be Jesuit’s “B” Relay, clocking a 1:48.16.
100 Fly
Jesuit’s three-headed dragon made a return for this race, claiming the 1st, 3rd, and 4th place spots in this event. Luke Lary would take the win with a 53.75, and following behind was a close race for second between HP’s Nathan Chan (54.63) in second, Drew Shippey ’27 (54.78) in third, and Flyn Hughes (55.10) in fourth.
500 Free
In this event, out of seven total swimmers, the four fastest were all Rangers. Sebastian Suwanda ’26 won with a 5:01.62, Grant Wilton ’27 took second with a 5:12.38, JP McCosker ’27 took third with a 5:20.27, and Michael Tobin ’27 took fourth with a 5:26.02.
200 Free Relay
This event would be won by the Rangers’ “A” Relay (Ruhl, Suwanda, Lary, Kennington) with a time of 1:29.23, all with swift 50 free splits under 23 seconds. In second was HP’s “A” Relay at a 1:37.99, and closely behind in third was Jesuit’s “B” Relay (Porter Pope ’28, Peter Hasik ’27, Michael Hasenfratz ’25, McCosker) at a 1:39.71.
100 Breast
This race was competitive for first and second between Grant Wilton and HP’s Winston McKenzie, Wilton getting the gold with a 1:05.59. In third would be Oliver Miller ’25 with a time of 1:09.01.

Diving
Although HP would take the win in the six rounds of 1-meter diving, the next four divers behind them were all Rangers. In first was HP’s Nathan Harris with a score of 165.80, and following closely behind were Koby Broad ’28 and Wills Blosser ’26 with scores of 141.65 and 127.35, respectively.
