Jesuit Dallas Hockey – A Recap of the Season’s Opening

The Jesuit Dallas Hockey team has had an impressive 2-0 start to the 2024-2025 season. Led by new head Coach Austin Smith, the Varsity Gold team beat Highland Park and Allen to start the season undefeated.

Game 1: Highland Park

On Wednesday, September 25, Jesuit faced Highland Park at the Richardson Stars Center. The Rangers dominated the entirety of the game, producing and 8-1 outcome.

The First Period

The game opened somewhat evenly, as both teams had a few missed scoring chances. Jesuit initiated its scoring streak halfway through the period, as Everett Sahadevan ’25 scored on an assist from Max Reynolds ’27. Quickly building on this momentum, Wade Bryan ’26 netted a rebound on a shot by defenseman Brandon Peppard ’25. In the final minutes of the period, Highland Park was able to score their only goal of the game on a defensive breakdown by the Rangers. A quick 30 seconds later, Jesuit responded with a goal by Tyler Woods ’25, assisted by Captain Conor Parro ’25.

The Second Period

As the game continued, the Rangers extended their dominant offensive streak, as Max Reynolds ’27 scored on a pass from Wade Bryan ’26, both players gaining their second points of the game. Five minutes later, Danny Myung ’25 scored on an impressive passing play by Thomas Fino ’25 and Wade Bryan ’26. Will Hubbell ’26 closed the period with a skillful and unassisted breakaway goal.

The Third Period

The Rangers did not draw back in their offensive dominance in the third period. Their structured play allowed them to keep Highland Park within their defensive zone. Goals were scored by Allen Zhang ’26 (assisted by Thomas Fino ’25 and Danny Myung ’25) and Thomas Fino ’25 (assisted by Wade Bryan ’26).

The Rangers’ controlling play against Highland park gave them confidence going into their second game against Allen.

Game 2: Allen

On Wednesday, October 2, Jesuit faced Allen at the Richardson Stars Center. The Rangers’ strong start allowed them to secure the win in this competitive game.

The First Period

The Rangers began the first period with intensity, dominating with more shots on goal and more scoring chances. Jesuit’s first goal occured in the middle of the period, as Ewan Randles ’25 netted a rebound on a shot by Wade Bryan ’26. The Rangers gained momentum, and Will Hubbell ’26 quickly boosted the lead on a Power Play with an accurate quick-release shot. Toward the end of the period, Allen Zhang ’26 scored Jesuit’s third goal by stripping the puck from an Allen player and walking in on net with a snap shot.

The Second Period

The second period was much more scrappy and competitive. Allen scored their first goal of the game, but Jesuit quickly responded with a wrap-around goal by Max Reynolds ’27, assisted by Will Hubbell ’26. This period continued to be physical and rough, as Jesuit earned 4 penalties, while Allen earned 2.

The Third Period

The third period was very even, with scoring chances happening on both ends of the ice. Allen scored their third goal of the game midway through the period, knocking Jesuit’s lead down to one goal. The Rangers played the remainder of the game with a cautious and defensive style. After Allen pulled their goalie in the final minute of the game, Allen Zhang ’26 secured the victory with an empty netter, his second goal of the game.

“We had a great start and dominated the first half of the game, but we got complacent and let a few goals in. luckily we were able to hold on to the lead and won the game.” – Allen Zhang ’26

The Rangers look forward to their next game, which is on Wednesday, October 9 at the Richardson Stars Center, against Keller High School. The team will continue to improve throughout the season, and hopes to win the State Championship and to move on to Nationals.
