During the past weekend, the Rangers started off hot going 6-0 in Duncanville. Now Jesuit baseball comes back home to Wright Field for the home opening tournament. The boys hope to continue their winning and stay undefeated.
Thursday 2/29/24 Game 1: Anna
Jesuit Wins: 5-4
The Rangers bring their undefeated record back to Wright Field for the Grand Slam Invitational Tournament. The Jesuit faithful poured out during community time to watch the game. Junior Asher Levy took game one once again for the Rangers. Levy went six innings and struck out four batters. Yet the Coyotes put up four runs and took the lead late in the sixth inning. Then senior Jaxx Rigelsky came out of the pen and went one, two, three in the seventh. In the bottom of the sixth with the winning run in scoring position, sophomore Charlie Wilson doubled down the right field line to win the game for the Rangers and keep their record perfect.

Friday 3/1/24 Game 1: Fossil Ridge
Jesuit Wins: 10-0
In the warm afternoon, senior Joe Allen got the ball for the second game of the tournament. Despite battling walks early, Allen struck out nine batters. He pitched the full game, allowing zero runs. The Jesuit offense exploded early in the day. The Rangers scored ten runs in only five innings, run ruling Fossil Ridge. The scoring started when senior Tristen Bird hit a bases clearing double to put the Rangers up early. The Rangers totaled five extra base hits capped off by senior Gavin Hickey hitting a homerun past the netting in left field.
Friday 3/1/24 Game 2: Lebanon Trail
Jesuit Wins: 7-0
After a quick victory the game before, ace pitcher sophomore Dillion Brandt took the ball for game two. Brandt shoved six innings and struck out twelve batters. He only allowed three hits and then passed the ball to senior Gabe Yescas with zero runs. Yescas came in, striking out a batter and keeping the zero on the board after another dominant performance from the pitching staff. The offense exploded once again early. The Rangers put up a quick seven runs in the first four innings. Senior Cam Davis and Charlie Wilson both accounted for two hits each. The Rangers remain undefeated going into the final day of the tournament.
Saturday 3/2/24 Game 1: Piedmont (Oklahoma)
Jesuit Wins: 8-2
To start off the end of the tournament the Rangers take on Piedmont, who traveled all the way down from Oklahoma for this Saturday matchup. Sophomore James Jorgenson took the bump. James went four innings, striking out nine batters, but giving up two runs. Then senior Will Whitehead came in with runners on and struck out two batters getting the Rangers out of a big inning. Yet again, the Rangers offense scored in bunches. They scored multiple runs in the first, second, and fourth inning. The heart of the order really saw the ball well. Junior Jake Fults went two for three with a homerun. Sophomore Taylor Haddock went two for two with two doubles. James Jorgenson also racked up two hits while pitching. Due to all the scoring, the tournament time limit ran out so the game ended in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Rangers again on top.
Saturday 2/2/24 Game 2: Frisco Reedy
Jesuit Wins: 4-2
Coming into the tournament, this was the game to circle on many fan’s calendars as Frisco Reedy advanced to the state semi finals last year during the playoffs. Junior Patrick Brady had the task of stopping the Lions as he got the ball for this matchup. Brady was rolling, striking out three batters and allowing no runners. A hard line drive hit Brady in the face and he had to be taken out of the game with runners in scoring position. Patrick ended up being ok but was taken to the emergency room to get stitches in his chin. With no warm up, Jaxx Rigelsky came in to save the day for the Rangers. Rigelsky went the remaining four innings only allowing two runs and shutting Reedy down late in the game. Cam Davis had quite the game at the plate as he single handedly powered the offense. Davis was three for three hitting two doubles and a triple, accounting for three out of the four runs. It was the closest game so far for the Rangers, but they pulled it out late with some timely hitting. The Rangers end the weekend undefeated yet again. They are now 11-0.
Jaxx Rigelsky said this after striking out batter despite poor call earlier in the inning,
