On Friday, November 10th, the Jesuit Dallas Hockey Team traveled to Mount Prospect, Illinois, looking forward to the Scholastic Hockey League Showcase, which would continue through the upcoming Sunday. The Rangers experienced some tough competition, and ended the weekend with a 1-3 losing record. However, the adversity the team faced in this tournament has already allowed them to succeed, as seen in the team’s 5-1 run in the Thanksgiving High School Showdown.
Game 1: Glenbrook South
Jesuit Hockey began the showcase with a harsh 6-1 loss to Glenbrook South. While Jesuit goalie Misha Saratovtsev ’24 played excellently, stopping 41 shots, the Rangers could not beat the unrelenting Glenbrook South. At the end of the game the Rangers had 23 shots on the opposing goalie. The Rangers’ goal was scored by Max Reynolds ’27 in the second period, on an assist by Will Hubble ’26

Game 2: York
Jesuit Hockey improved defensively in the second game of the showcase, losing the game 3-0. The Rangers’ three penalties played a factor in their defeat, as one costly power play for York led to a goal against Jesuit Dallas. The Rangers’ second loss of the weekend motivated them as they approached their third game.
Game 3: Carmel
The Rangers, ambitious to find victory after two losses, stepped it up offensively in the third game of the SHL showcase, ending the game with a 5-2 win. Midway through the first period against Carmel, Senior Whit Taylor ’24 started the 5 goal game with a powerful shot on the penalty kill. Towards the beginning of the second period, Thomas Fino ’25 scored on a heads-up passing play by Allen Zheng ’26 and Jack Bowdich ’24. As the 5-minute mark hit the clock, Asher Yarbrough ’24 put up another goal for the Rangers, assisted by Max Reynolds ’27. The third period was more even, with two goals for each team. The first goal for the Rangers was scored by Connor Sughrue, on a solo shot. Jesuit Dallas ended the game with a goal by Captain Connor Parro ’25, on assists from Liam Placke ’24 and Connor Sughrue ’24. While the Rangers did perpetrate six penalties, their defensive discipline, keeping Carmel to 17 shots, and offensive persistence, attaining 24 shots, allowed them to win their this game in the showcase.
Game 4: Stevenson
Jesuit Dallas Hockey ended the SHL Showcase with a close 3-4 loss against Stevenson. Jesuit competed well against the opposing team, which was very balanced with the Rangers. While the game was close and competitive throughout, the Rangers could not find a way to tie the game up in the closing minutes. Jesuit goals were scored by Thomas Fino ’25, Max Reynolds ’27, and Liam Placke ’24.
