School is back in swing, the leaves are falling, the air is cooling, but most importantly, it’s football season. Football is a staple in the Texas high school experience and it’s even bigger at Jesuit. The freshmen proudly represent Jesuit with over 140 kids in the football program. Let’s dive into how the season is going for the freshmen.
Gold Team
The gold team this year holds a 2-4 record and while the record doesn’t show it, the gold team has developed significantly this season and looks forward to a great finish. The gold team has had some fantastic games, beating the Irving Tigers 30-0, a great team effort from both offense and defense. Along with a couple great wins, the gold team has never lost by more than two scores, making every game competitive and exciting. The defense has really proven itself, only allowing more than 14 points twice this season. The offense has done very well itself and continues to get better each game.
The gold team has lots of young talent to keep your eye out for on the field. Some impact players on defense have been linebackers Simon McGoldrick and Jeremy Fife, cornerback Andres Vann, and defensive lineman Cole Johnson. Some players to watch on offense are Preston Farragut and Jackson Gair, along with quarterback Ben Phillips and offensive lineman Ford Roberts. Continue to watch this talented group as they compete each week.
The blue team has had a fantastic year with a 5-1 record including a big win over Rockwall. The blue team also has some standout players: Miles Hendricks, Colton Patterson, Beckett Thornton, and Charlie Boyd. Do not overlook this group because they are a skillful team, each player ready to step up and play hard.
The white team is at a balanced record of 3-3. They play powerhouse schools such as Prosper and Allen and more than hold their own, showing the resilience of this group.
This freshman class is one to watch and they will continue to get better and play hard. Head Coach Bob Wunderlick certainly believes in this group, commenting on their great effort and hard working attitude.
“We are just past the halfway point for this season, and we have been with this group of 140 players for two months. The players are working hard and competing both in practice and in games. Our goals are to win the remaining twelve games and to continue to improve in all areas for all three teams.” – Coach Wunderlick
