Jesuit Plows Irving in Dominant Win Before Highland Park

Friday, September 22, in Irving, the Rangers dominated early in the game and it really continued throughout the entire time. This propelled them to a 52-13 win over the Tigers.

Quentin popped off for a game of a lifetime, going for 5 touchdowns, 7 receptions, and 160 yards, filling in for the absence of Cooper Cutler. Overall many of the small mistakes made against Lake Highlands like the snapping issues were fixed, and the fourth quarter saw many of the Rangers lower on the depth chart come in to prepare for future roles later this year.

While we looked pretty good, it was all in comparison to a relatively less talented team. Charlie Peters ’25 still threw two picks despite his many touchdowns, one of which was a pick six. There were still different small mistakes made that will need to be fixed.

Overall a special teams looked exceptional, especially our returns, and I am anxious on if that will continue this week.

“In a battle on the gridiron, I truly admired the way our team continued to fight till the clock hit zero no matter the score. Moreover, I love the way our offense is promising with so many weapons in the skill positions. Then we also have great special teams highlighted by some of the top kickers, Dylan Drennan and Noah McGough, in the nation. Can’t wait to see how the season plays out and onto HP. Looking Ahead

After the win it brings the Rangers to 3-2 on the season overall, being 2-1 in district. Jesuit will play Highland Park this week in the tollway series in what became an increasingly more important matchup as Berkner beat Lake Highlands 55-35 last Friday, meaning all district teams in contention for the district title have at least one loss. While Highland Park and Jesuit both rely on a second Lake Highlands loss to win district, it is increasingly more vital that they secure a win against the other this week to have a chance for the title.

The Rangers and Scots have met six times total in the rivalry, despite fierce passions from fans, due to playing at different levels of competition. The Rangers have only won one matchup, all the way back in 1973. Last year marked the first time the two teams played since 2001 and Highlands Park came away with the win 35-28 despite a thrilling fourth quarter comeback from the Rangers which featured 28 unanswered points.

In order for the Rangers to win this week several things have to happen. First, all mistakes must be completely eliminated from happening as well as being erased from the minds of the players. Second, Charlie Peters and his receivers have to connect for the game of his life, which is saying something seeing how he played against 17 ranked Rockwall. Third, our defensive has to get stops early and not allow the Rangers to get behind early. This team is a momentum team, and if the defensive can get stops early and continue to get stops in key moments throughout the game it will do wonders for the morale and end up boosting the teams offense. Lastly, the Rangers must PACK THE HOUSE. It is evident throughout the entire system that this is a team that feeds off the energy of the crowd. If we can pack the stadium under the lights on a Friday, everyone dressing in theme according to Fellowship of the Flag, the chances of a Ranger victory increase significantly.

This week’s game will be played on September 29 and will be played at Gerald R. Ford Stadium, home of the Southern Methodist University Mustangs. Kickoff is set for 7:00 and stay tuned to Fellowship of the Flag for what the theme will be.
