Jesuit has 3 teams this year: Varsity Gold, Varsity Silver, and JV Gold. Each team is in a separate division. Varsity Gold is the best division, Varsity Silver is the second best division, and JV gold is the best JV division.
After winning their 5th straight state title, Jesuit’s varsity gold hockey team kicked off their season with a 2-0-0 record during their leveling tournament. Varsity silver also had a strong showing going 1-0-1 and Jesuit’s new JV team went 1-1-0. This is just the start of a long and successful season for all 3 teams.
Jesuit Varsity Gold vs. Prosper
Jesuit dominated Prosper, winning by a final score of 6-0 and outshooting them 27-10. Senior goaltender, Misha Saratovtsev, received a shutout in his first ever game with the program. Saratovtsev transferred to Dallas Jesuit from Strake Jesuit in Houston. Last year, with Houston, he averaged a .943 save percentage and a 1.26 goals against average per elite prospects https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/825157/misha-saratovtsev. Overall, Jesuit’s win vs. Prosper was a complete team win, with goals from up and down the roster, coming from Andrew Theisen (twice), Jack Bowdich, Will Hubbell, Allen Zhang, and Everett Sahadevan. This was a great start to the season for Jesuit.
Jesuit Varsity Silver vs. Denton
Jesuit beat Denton in a 2-1 nail-biting game. The final shots of the game were an even 20-20. However, 2 goals from Victor Laos propelled Jesuit past Denton. This was another good game to start Jesuit’s season.
Jesuit JV Gold vs. Plano West
Jesuit brought home yet another win with a 6-3 W against Plano West. Jesuit barely outshot Plano, 17-16, but a 4 goal performance by freshman Ben Khalil brought Jesuit victory. This game marked the start to the season for Jesuit’s brand new JV team.
Jesuit Varsity Gold vs. Northwest
Varsity Gold won a gritty 2-1 game vs. Northwest. The game was deadlocked at 1 for most of the 3rd period, but a powerplay snipe from senior captain Jack Bowdich with 1 minute and 3 seconds left in the game sealed the deal for Jesuit. The final shots of the game were 15-11 in favor of Jesuit. At the end of the weekend, goaltender Misha Saratovtsev received Varsity Gold’s player of the week.
Jesuit Varsity Silver vs. Grapevine/Colleyville
Despite outshooting Grapevine/Colleyville 21-10, the final score of the game was 2-2. Rhys Garrick and David Schroeder put in goals for Jesuit, capping off the weekend with a 1-0-1 record. Varsity Silver’s player of the week went to Victor Laos.
Jesuit JV Gold vs. Prosper
JV Gold was handed their first loss of the season, in a 6-1 affair with Prosper. Jesuit, being outshot 46-8, only scored 1 goal, coming from Ben Khalil. After a 5 goal weekend, Ben Khalil was JV Gold’s player of the week.
What’s Next?
All Jesuit teams had a strong showing this weekend, especially Varsity Gold who went undefeated. Varsity Gold is now gearing up to start the season off running and win their 6th straight state title. Their next goal is to make some noise in the national tournament. This was a step in the right direction for the other 2 Jesuit teams too who are looking to establish themselves in their new divisions. Overall, this weekend was a success for the Jesuit hockey program which will hopefully soon be recognized as not just one of the best prep school programs in the south, but in the entire country.
