On the weekend of March 25th, 2023, the annual Jesuit Dallas Sheaner Relays were held for the entire Dallas Metroplex. It is based on the legacy of former track and field coach at Jesuit Herb Sheaner’s strong support and impact on youth athletics, especially high school track. The meet, held annually since 1956, brings together some of the best high school track and field athletes from across Texas to compete in various events.
This year’s event brought people from Denton and Frisco to College Station and Sulfur Springs. However, there was a significant presence of Jesuit athletes competing in their event, held at the Jesuit track.

On an early Saturday morning, the Rangers kicked the event off strong during the 4000m Distance Medley Relay with a solid third-place finish. The team of Henry Beckman ’24, Jesse Jenkins ’25, Caden Cutchall ’24, and Charlie Thornton ’24 all combined for a time of 10:47.38. They later reunited in the 4×400 finals, getting 12th place with a time of 3:26.08. Henry Beckman and Caden Cutchall showed up again soon after in the 800-meter run; Cutchall placed ninth with a time of 1:57.59, and Beckman placed fifth with a barely faster time of 1:56.70. In the highly populated finals for the mile, Charlie Thornton reappears with a top 30 finish and a great time of 4:30.61. In another very crowded race, the 400, the Rangers had a top 30 finisher in Hampton Aldridge, scoring a 52.55 and a new personal best.
Over on the field, Jesuit had another solid performance. In the shot put, an event of 40+, Jameson Kemp got 22nd place with a 41-foot throw. On the high jump, Timothy Bush represented the Rangers with a ninth-place jump with a height of 5’10”. For the long jump, two Rangers, Hampton Aldridge, and Houston Walker, tied with 18’6″ jumps, getting them both to 29th place.
The Rangers did not necessarily win the Sheaner Relays but faced great competition across Texas. It was overall a great learning experience for the Jesuit Track and Field team.

The Rangers’ next Track and Field meet will be on April 1st at Austin for the Texas Relays, followed shortly after by the District 7-6A Championships.
