Is Jordan Spieth Back?

-

Currently, Jordan Spieth is having a resurgence in his career right now. Over the last couple of months, the former Jesuit alum has been playing well. He is currently ranked 14th according to the PGA FedEx Cup Standings, a bump of 15 places from 29th place. But first, let’s review some of Jordan Spieth’s recent performances on the PGA Tour.

Valspar Championship

Jordan Spieth places three ties in the Valspar Championship. Spieth played this tournament excellently, and even in 4 rounds, he led the Valspar. However, he would be unable to close out and have a bogey on the final hole. Jordan Spieth would take home $477,900 from Valspar, giving him some momentum coming into the Masters.

The Augusta Masters

Jordan Spieth’s next-best performance came at the PGA’s biggest tournament, The Augusta Masters. But it did not seem like it would be the most remarkable performance by Spieth. In his first two rounds, Spieth performed decently. He was the top player but was still in a place where he could be competitive. But it was during the 3rd round when Spieth started to fall apart. At his worst, he went from -5 to E. But then, Spieth began to make a comeback, returning to -2 by the end of the 3rd round.

In his fourth round, Spieth played flawlessly, getting himself into 2nd place and looking like he might be able to catch Jon Rahm. Spieth would end the tournament with a score of -7 under par and place T4. Spieth would win $744,000 and help boost his standing in the FedEx Cup standings.

RBC Heritage

The next tournament after a brilliant Masters performance was the RBC Heritage tournament, in which he was the defending champion from 2022 and defended it well. Jordan Spieth’s performance throughout RBC was almost flawless. Every round, he moved closer and closer to the top of the leaderboard. By the fourth round, he was in the top 5, and after a couple of holes in the fourth, he was leading the RBC tournament. At one point, Spieth led RBC Heritage with a two-stroke lead, closing in the later half of his round. But British golfer Matt Fitzpatrick would close the lead, and the two would go into the playoff.

Jordan Spieth and Matt Fitzpatrick would trade pars on their first two holes, but on 3rd playoff hole (which is the 18th hole on the course), Matt would birdie the hole. Spieth would not be able to do the same and would lose to Matt Fitzpatrick. Although Spieth did not win it, he took home $2,180,000 from the tournament.

Conclusion

Is Spieth making a comeback? Who knows? He has been playing at a high level over the last couple of weeks, but with Spieth, things can turn dramatically. With the RBC Heritage over, Spieth’s next big tournament is the PGA Players Championship. He will try to win this tournament as it is the only major tournament he hasn’t won. All we can do is wait and see what will happen to our fellow Ranger.
