On February 23rd and 24th, Jesuit Track and Field competed in the Allen Eagle Relays. The man, the myth, the legend, Charlie Humbert ’23 had an outstanding performance this past weekend.
He received first place in the 110 Meter Hurdles running a 15.51, and first place in the 300 meter hurdles running a 41.7. When asked, Charlie generously gave us insight on how it feels to get the first of many wins this season.
“After months of training it felt very rewarding to finally get 1st in the 110 and 300 hurdles. Not only did I perform well but also our team. Personally, the JV teams are super talented and this young talent is going to get better and better in the next few years.” – Charlie Humbert ’23
When asked about himself, Charlie humbly gives credit to others on the team. With leadership like this, The Jesuit Track and Field team has become a well-oiled machine. Jesuit Dallas earned a 3rd place finish at the 2023 Allen Eagle Relays, held on Feb. 23-24 at Allen High School.
This podium finish for the Rangers was heavily assisted by junior Charlie Thornton’s demolition of the distance events. After earning fifth place in the 800, first place in 1600, and first again in the 3200-meter run; fans were mistaking him for Forrest Gump.
The mental strength necessary to place in long-distance events is a feat of human nature. Thornton ’24 has had no lack of motivation, constantly being pushed to his limits by teammates Henry Beckman ’24 and Ben McKinney ’23. Ben secured a second-place finish in the 1,600 with a 4:39.82.
Jesse Jenkins ’25, Sean Watson ’24, Logan Thompson ’24, and Charlie Humbert ’23 secured the silver medal with a 3:35.38 in the 4X400. Sammy McFarland ’24, Watson ’24, Thompson, and Cooper Cutler ’24 would also add a third-place finish, 1:33.82 in the 4×200 meter relay.
Mason Adams ’25 and Jessie Jenkins ’25 received second and third place, both pole vaulting a whopping 11-6. Dave Alcala-Frederick ’23 and Jameson Kemp ’23 came close with Dave throwing 39-8.5 ft and Jameson with a 38-5.75 ft securing the 12th and 13th place in the shot put. It takes a big man to even carry those heavy balls without hurting your back, let alone throwing them with some finesse. Luckily, we Rangers have men who find joy in this event. When asked Jameson and Dave how many pushups they can do they responded “all of them.” These young men haunt Chuck Norris in his worst nightmares.
The Rangers squad will be back in action at the Lovejoy Invitational next Saturday the 4th.
