On Thursday, February 9th, the NFL hosted there annual NFL Honors show. To those who need to learn what that is, it is the award show for the NFL, where they will give out an award to players and coaches. I wrote an article titled My Picks for All NFL Awards a couple of weeks ago. In the article, I predicted who would win each of the NFL awards. So, let’s see how my predictions turn out.

MVP

I picked Patrick Mahomes to win MVP and no surprise to anyone that he won the MVP this year. Honestly, who did not think he was going to win MVP this year? The choice is obvious with all the impressive statics he leads in and taking the Chiefs to the Super Bowl.

Defensive Player of the Year

My pick for DPOY was Nick Bosa, and I was correct. While there were many great candidates for this award, Nick Bosa had better statics and helped build the best defense in the NFL.

Offensive Player of the Year

Again, not a hard pick to make. The clear candidate was Justin Jefferson and no surprise to no one that he won OPOY. Honestly, his season might just be the most impressive out of any of these player’s on this list (including Patrick Mahomes). With all the records he was setting, who else would take this award, Ja’marr Chase?

Offensive Rookie of the Year

We come to the first instance where I was wrong in my prediction. I picked Kenneth Walker III (RB) to win this award over Garrett Wilson (WR). This was a hard choice because both of these players had equally great seasons, but in the end, Garrett Wilson won the award. Garrett had a great rookie season, and it is no surprise he won this yard over Kenneth, who also had an impressive season.

Defensive Rookie of the Year

I was correct when I picked Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner (CB) to win this award. This was a relatively easy choice, with Gardner being a very strong candidate to win this award. He was the clear favorite, and no one else was in contention with him.

Comeback Player of the Year

This was by far the most challenging pick for me to make. I pick Geno Smith to win this award over Christian McCaffrey. I’m right about this pick because Geno Smith beat McCaffrey for Comeback Player of the year. He had an incredible season for someone who was thought to be a washup, which gave him the edge over McCaffrey to win this award.

Coach of the Year

My pick for coach of the year was Nick Sirianni, who, in all fairness, had a strong case for him. But Giants coach Brian Daboll ended up winning the award. It’s embarrassing that I never even consider him a candidate for the award. He took a New York Giants team that went 4-13 last year and turned them around this year, bringing them to a winning record of 9-7-1 and a playoff berth with a win. It is more impressive than Nick Siriani, or any other coach has done this year, except for Doug Pederson.

Conclusion

The result is a record of 5 for 7 for my prediction, which is around 71.5% percent. It is not necessarily a bad record to get. Overall the NFL Honors were all pretty fair, and it will be interesting to see who will step up next year to be the next candidate for these awards. Also, congrats on Dak Prescott becoming the fourth Dallas Cowboy player to win the Walter Payton Award.
