Midseason Struggles Weigh down Dallas Mavs

-

The Mavericks are currently a 5th seed in the western conference, boasting a record of 24-22. Although they have recovered from a terrible start to the season with a seven-game winning streak between Dec.21 and Jan.7, it is a bitter-sweet time for Maverick fans. The Mavericks are good, but they need the star power or talent to push themselves to be a championship contender. After the seven-game winning streak, the Mavs have gone 2-6, losing to pretty bad teams. The answer to why the Mavericks suck is obvious: they need another co-star to play with Luka.

Although Luka is a player that only comes around once in a lifetime, with him putting up a stat line of 33.7 PTS (1st in League), 8.8 REB (40th in League), and 8.8 AST (4th in League). He alone can not win games. We have Christian Wood, a solid player, but that’s it. He is good, but he will not win you games on his like a superstar would for his team. Want proof of this? The Mavs have played five games without Luka, and they have lost all five. What this is saying is that the Mavs are useless without Luka.

As a Mavs fan, I am scared that many people are comparing Luka’s situation with the Mavericks to that of Lebron with Cleveland. We all know how that ended. I have heard many people making these videos about who the Mavericks should trade for. Still, if they want a superstar, it will be in free agency. In 2025, the Mavericks will be securing a huge T.V. deal giving them a huge amount of squeezing room to spend as much more as they want for free agents. The 2025 free agent pool is insane, with many all-star players like Jimmy Butler, Giannis, and Kawhi Leonard will be free agents, as well as many veteran players. The real question is if the Mavericks can get these players… The Mavs have been in this situation before, and with Dirk, they seem unable to build anything around him. We have never been able to get another all-star player to this city. Only time will tell if the Mavericks can capitalize on Luka or if it will just go down in flames.
