Continuing its successful streak, the Jesuit Competitive Shooting Team started the new year by competing in a skeet doubles tournament at Ellis County Sportsman Club. Though it was windy, cold, and cloudy, the team shot true, with sophomore Winn Moore ’25 scoring an impressive 86, placing 14th overall. Despite an unfamiliar iteration of skeet, the JCST not only shot remarkably well but exhibited talent in their fluid adjustment to the grimy environment – an effort depicting resilience, the determination for growth that JCST cultures as a team.

Impressed by the team’s performance, Coach Maggard expressed excitement, thrilled that the team is embracing a new discipline. Reflecting skill and copious practice, seasoned shooter Drake Clark ’23 scored an astounding 82 – the team’s highest; furthermore, Chris Coniglio ’24 nearly matched him, touting an impressive 81.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of Coach Maggard and Pete Moore – who facilitate the small group instruction sessions at the Dallas Gun Club – the JCST has been able to practice more and subsequently grow as a team. Moreover, the small group sessions allow athletes to be taught by world-class athletes, like Coach Craig Cain, an NSCA master class shooter and former Team USA representative during the 2020 International Helice Tournament. Nevertheless, the JCST has shown significant improvement, an extraordinary growth attributable to the team’s mentors – like Coach Cain and Mr. Moore – whose dedication has shaped the JCST’s season.
