First Podium appearance this season:
JCST kicked off its season with a strong start and was able to deposit some new trophies in B hallway! At the trap tournament hosted by Fort Worth Trap and Skeet, athletes were given 100 targets to bust and the JCST was certainly up to the task. Sophomore Winn Moore placed third overall in Men’s Varsity with a score of 92 out of 100. He credits his victory to his consistent practice, and cited the old adage “practice makes perfect.” His score helped raise the team’s total up to 452 out of 500, as shotgun sports count the scores of the 5 best-performing athletes.
The other four highest scorers are Carter Dubiel ’25 with an 85, Chris Coniglio ’24 with an 84, Burkley Duncan ’23 with an 81, and Paul Mansur ’24 with a score of 80. Furthermore, Myles Vinyard ’25 shot a perfect round, an impressive feat of marksmanship.

December 10 Skeet Tournament:
Keeping up the momentum from the last tournament, the team once again placed second place! JCST athletes had to shoot through heavy winds which were almost constantly shifting, meaning each target would move differently, meaning that athletes had to constantly adjust their hold points and leads.
The top five athletes for the team were Seniors Palmer Bowman (with a score of 94) and Drake Clark (with a score of 93), Sophomore Winn Moore with a score of 92, Senior David Kostell with a score of 79, and Junior Jake Follett with a score of 77. All five of these athletes have been regularly attending small group practices at Dallas Gun Club, which has allowed the athletes to make “massive improvements” in their shooting according to Jake Follett.
The consistency and frequency of the practices have been a massive boon for the team, as it allows athletes to get more personalized instruction and more time practicing as a team than they have had in previous years. The sudden success of the team is directly a result of these practices which were put together by Pete Moore, parent of Winn Moore ‘25. Mr. Moore has given up countless hours organizing these practices, and the team is forever grateful for his hard work and dedication to the shooting sport and to Jesuit.
