LISD Eastside
The Jesuit Swimming Team partook in a highly competitive meet with Flower Mound on the 20th of October, unfortunately falling just short of victory. This loss brings the season record to 1-1, however, there is still a strong outlook for the team this season. The unfortunate loss was accompanied by a myriad of victories in individual and relay events. The match was extremely close with a score of 263 from Flower Mound and 237 from Jesuit.
Individual victories included two wins from junior William Savarese, with a time of 1:53.20 in the 200 I.M, followed by a win in the 500 free with a time of 4:35.97. Three other Jesuit swimmers finished consecutively in the 500 free, scoring well in the meet. Freshman Sebastian Suwanda at 5:13.29, junior Jake Follet with a time of 5:39.37, and sophomore Jackson Powell finished at 5:48.03. The Rangers also saw strong individual success in the diving portion of the meet. Junior Thatch Balady placed first in the one-meter dive, junior Trey Smith in second, and freshman Luca Shipley in third.
In the final event of the meet, the Rangers saw a win in the 400 free relay. The team consisting of William Savarese, Sebastian Suwanda, freshman Luke Lary, and sophomore Flyn Hughes won with a time of 3:24.21. This brought the event out to a close score of 263-237, and a very close loss for the Jesuit team.
sophomore Samuel Carley ’25 believes “that the team has worked extremely hard in practice and the work is showing off, I have high hopes for the team in the remainder of the season and onwards.”
Allen & Lovejoy
The Jesuit Swimming team dove ahead recently, winning against both Allen and Lovejoy. The Rangers won 93-90 against Allen and 104-76 against Lovejoy. The event saw strong performances in the individual medleys as well as team relays. The team kept up their efforts to bring the season record to 3-1 after the Allen and Lovely dual meet.
In individual events there was great success, junior William Savarese took home a win in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:51.56, and a win in the 500-meter freestyle at 4:33.13. Sophomore Flyn Hughes saw victory in the 100-meter fly with a time of 56.86. Other strong performances include freshman Sebastian Suwanda placing second in the 200-meter freestyle at 1:52.40. Additionally junior Alexander McSorley saw a second and third-place finish in the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle.
In the final event of the meet, the Rangers saw a win in the 400-meter freestyle relay. This victory saw the Rangers across the line to win in both meets. Sophomore Flyn Hughes, freshman Sebastian Suwanda, sophomore Luke Lary, and junior William Savarese swam a time of 3:24.08, five seconds ahead of the next team.
sophomore Flyn Hughes ’25 thought that “the team’s performance was top notch recently, and [he’s] really proud of the effort and work [they’ve] put in.”
These recent victories advance the team record to 3-1, thus providing a hopeful outlook for the rest of the season. There is also strong promise and aspirations seen for the post-season.
