During the Mass of the Holy Spirit, Jesuit Dallas welcomed 17 new faculty members. One of them is Mr. Saroni. Mr. Saroni is one of the three new math teachers at Jesuit.
How did your path through high school and college lead you to Jesuit?
“My high school experience was I was homeschooled and I was decent in math. So my mom had me go to a co-op with a really good math teacher: Mrs. Miller. She was an electrical engineer and she taught pre-cal and calculus in high school. At that co-op, they had a college day, which was advertising for the college university of Dallas, which is a Catholic institution. I didn’t grow up Catholic, I grew up Christian, but I wanted to go. And so I went to the University of Dallas for my math major, and I really enjoyed the Catholic ideas and social teachings and all that and the community there and the great math professors. After I graduated, one of my friends who I met at UD, had gotten a job here and I had already enjoyed just the way a lot of people unite, their Catholic religion with education. I said why not come give Jesuit a try.”
What teaching experience did you have before coming to Jesuit?
“Most of my teaching experience came through tutoring, like with my peers. Outside of that, this is my first teaching opportunity, which I’m very grateful for.”
How do you try to approach students in class?
“I assume the best going forward that they’re there to learn. They’re gonna put in the effort to learn and that they’ll police themselves and be respectful. If they have extra questions outside of class, I’m more than happy to answer them.”
What are some of your favorite things about Jesuit so far?
“Jesuit’s been good. The guys have all been really good, really eager to learn. They’re rowdy at times, but that’s part of why we’re here, right? All the guys who have come to my office wanting to talk to me, have been really cool. So just getting to know the guys, one on one has been really neat.”
What are you involved in outside of the classroom?
“I am one of the co-moderators for the ultimate Frisbee club. We’re just meeting at community time. Hopefully, as we get more people involved, we can kind of branch out and see if we can, you know, compete with high schools and stuff like that.”
