Jesuit Hockey’s Preseason Games — Preparing for League Title

-

After coming off their 4th straight state championship victory, the Jesuit Dallas Hockey team is starting the year 1-2 following the Varsity Gold preseason tournament (Sep. 10 and 11).

Division 1 (Single School) vs. Division 2 (Aggregate) Hockey

The two divisions are used to separate the teams competing for a state championship. But both division one and two schools compete against each other throughout the regular season.

Division one makes up teams with players from the same school, like Jesuit Dallas, while division two makes up teams with players from an aggregate of schools. It is determined by where you live rather than what school you attend in division two. These teams would be Frisco West, Highland Park, and other teams that are not Jesuit Dallas, Strake Jesuit, or Allen.

Jesuit vs. Frisco West

The Jesuit and Frisco West game presented an intense matchup of the former Division 1 State Champions, your Jesuit Rangers, versus the former Division 2 State Champions, Frisco West. Jesuit competed valiantly against the highly talented Frisco West team but fell short, losing 2-1.

Besides the loss, because of the team’s excellent performance, they now know their talent and potential skill as the season progresses. It will be a great matchup when Jesuit Hockey rematches against Frisco West for the 2nd game of the season on (Sep. 29) at 9:00 pm at Mckinney Ice Rink.

Jesuit vs. Flower-Mound Marcus

The Jesuit Dallas Hockey team put the pressure on Flower-Mound Marcus off the jump. The rangers scored an absurd six goals against the Flower-Mound Marcus goalie because of their offensive dominance.

Standout senior captain Kyle Hogan ’23 led the stellar offensive performance by scoring three goals and submitting his first hat trick of the season. Because of the captain’s excellent performance, the Jesuit Hockey team gained their first preseason win. The Jesuit Hockey team will play Flower-Mound Marcus for the 4th game of the season on (Oct. 13) at 9:15 pm in Richardson Ice Rink.

Jesuit vs. Mckinney

After a 1-1 record in the leveling tournament, the rangers were set to play against their weakest opponent, Mckinney. Mckinney came out firing, though, putting up four goals against Jesuit. Jesuit stormed back but was unable to prevail. The game’s final score was 4-2.

The Jesuit Hockey team will play Mckinney for the 3rd game of the season on (Oct. 6) at 9:15 pm in Mckinney Ice Rink.

“Despite the losses we faced during the tournament, our team displayed a compete level that I haven’t seen in quite a while.  With our increased practices and team chemistry, I have no doubt we’ll be able to compete for the league title this year.”– Ryan Virkar ’23 assistant captain

What’s Next?

The team’s performance in the preseason tournament had its highs and lows, but the team still has a good chance of competing for their 5th consecutive State Championship if they continue to improve over the season.

The Jesuit Hockey regular season will start Thursday (Sep. 22) at 9:15 pm in Richardson Ice Rink against Keller. This game should be a good opportunity for the team to prove themselves this year because of the 0-3 record against Keller last season.
