The Rangers returned back to the Lone Star State and extended a winning streak to 4 beating Coppell, Frisco, and Southlake Carroll.
Coppell
The Rangers beat the Cowboys of Coppell 15-6, following a high-scoring first half and a shutout in the second half. In the first, both teams exchanged opening goals, 2-2, with goals from Legg and Suarez. Then, the Rangers start to pull away with goals from Rose and Chandler to close out the first 4-2. It was a wild 2nd quarter with 11 goals being scored by both teams. Vlasimsky and Martin started the scoring in the period. Then we went on a 5 goal run, unmatched by the Cowboys until the end of the quarter. Hobbs scored back to back, then Reading and Martin scored, and Vlasimsky closed the run with his second of the day. We went into halftime up 11-6, a high-scoring half, and Connor Knight decided to put a stop to Coppell’s scoring.
The second half was a clean sheet for Knight and the Rangers scored 4 to win 15-6. First, Legg scored his second of the day and Rose got two of his own in the third quarter. Then, in the fourth Hudson Johnston scored the lone goal of the fourth. Reading, Suarez, and Chandler had another great day with the face-offs, winning 18 of 21. Knight had a solid day with 6 saves, and a great second half letting no goals in the net. The defensemen forced a lot of turnovers and helped the goalless second half.
Frisco
The Ranger won another game big, extending the win streak to 3 as they beat the Raccoons of Frisco 11-4. The Rangers were led by big days from Vlasimsky, Hobbs, and Rose who combined for 10 goals. The first goal came in the sixth minute from Vlasimsky to take a 1-0 lead. Frisco matched the goal, but Rose took the lead again to close the quarter 2-1. Then to start the second, the Rangers piled on 4 straight goals with two from Vlasimsky and two from Hobbs to take the lead 6-1. Frisco tried to cut the lead to four before the half, but Vlasimsky scored his fourth of the day with 18 seconds left to make it 7-2 at the half.
Frisco started the scoring for the second half making it 7-3, but the Rangers decided to answer with 4 goals. Rose scored back-to-back goals to make it 9-3, and then Legg and Hobbs each scored to make it 11-3. The Rangers were scoreless in the fourth and Frisco cut the lead to 7 with a little under two minutes left in the game, so the Rangers won 11-4. Vlasimsky added an assist to his goals for 5 points. Suarez, Reading, and Chandler combined for 15-19 on face-offs. Knight allowed three goals in three-quarters of work, and Coleman closed the game out.
Southlake Carroll
The Rangers pushed their winning streak to 4 as they beat the Dragons of Southlake Carroll on their senior night by a score of 6-4. The Rangers started out the game strong with two early goals from Legg and Rose. The Dragons made it 2-1 at the end of the first. And then, to start the second the dragons equalized the game at 2. With forty seconds left in the half, Caiden Vlasimsky scored an unassisted goal to take a one-goal lead going into the break.
Halfway through the third quarter, the Rangers started to pull away, extending their lead to 5-2 with goals from Martin and Rose. Then, the Dragons started to mount a comeback making it 5-3 at the end of the third, and cut it down to 1 with nine minutes left in the game. Hobbs and Vlasimsky made sure that the game was out of reach with six minutes left in the game as Hobbs scored with a Vlasimsky assist.
Vlasimsky and Rose led the Rangers in points with two each, while Legg, Hobbs, and Chandler each had one point. Then, Suarez in face-offs went 6-14, not a great performance but good enough for the win. And in goal, Connor Knight had a complete game where he had 10 saves and only allowed 4 goals.
Rest of the Season
Improving to 7-2 the Rangers look forward to facing their two biggest rivals Highland Park and Episcopal School of Dallas. After losing to the team from across the Tollway in Postell Stadium, the Rangers look to even out the season series in Highland Park. Then on April 24th, the Rangers will face the Eagles of ESD at SMU at noon. The game was moved in order for our loyal Jesuit fans to be able to attend this classic of a game. Finally, after hopefully beating both rivals the Rangers will move onto the playoffs where we strive to make another deep playoff push and a goal of winning state. Continuing this win streak would lock the Rangers at 2 in the playoffs.
