Jesuit Varsity Rugby Takes Charge With a Three Game Winstreak

-

In the midst of a crazy year of COVID delays and a historic snowstorm canceling many activities, Jesuit’s Rugby team triumphed over their competitors in three stunning feats.

Allen Game

Every school in the DFW area fears Allen as a formidable athletic force, but Jesuit’s rugby team challenged such fears in a stunning 31-14 win. Notable players include Sy Mendenhall ’21, who scored two tries for Jesuit. Other notable players include Jack Judson ’21, whose powerful hit gave Jesuit possession of the ball. This prompted junior Kyle Nolan ’22 to score a try for Jesuit.

Allen caught up with a bit, leaving Jesuit only with a 12-7 lead, but Jack Judson stopped Allen from gaining another try. Later, Brennan Graham ’22 boosted Ranger morale by scoring another try. This prompted Mendenhall to score another try, and Charlie Freeman ’22 scored the team’s final try for the win.

Plano Game

The Rangers absolutely dominated in the Plano game, finishing off with a 61-5 win. Mendenhall, Will Delaney ’21, and Dimitri Papanicolau ’21 all performed in a spectacular manner, scoring two tries each. Papanicolau also managed to score six conversions. Judson, Jacob Wooten ’21, and Andrew Charlton ’22 all scored tries as well. Freddie Bowhill ’21 and Benoni Mesfin ’22 finished the game by scoring strong conversions of their own.

Lake Travis

Following a long road trip, Jesuit kept up their winning streak by defeating Lake Travis 36-17. Notable players include Alex Triantos ’21 and junior Charlie Freeman ’22, who both scored two stunning tries. Marshall Neri ’21 and Brennan Graham ’22 both added tries to the team’s score. Aidan Piotrowski ’21 played a stunning game as well, scoring three tries for the Rangers.

Final Thoughts

Thanks to a stunning record, the Jesuit Varsity Rugby team is ranked number one in the nation according to Goff Rugby Report. Congrats Rugby athletes on this stunning feat.
