Streaking towards the open net, with only one red and blue Allen goalie standing in the way, Dylan Topolski ’19 winded up, zeroed in on his target, and fired. The result? Another score in a dominant 8-4 victory against the Allen Eagles in the first regular season game for JV lacrosse.
Jesuit’s JV Lacrosse team has habitually found ways to win, evidenced with their stellar 4-1 season record. In this article, you’ll find the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat, and experience how the Blue and Gold operates as a cohesive unit.
Allen: 8-4 W
After faring the competitive Jesuit Invitational, which always draws some of the best lacrosse teams across the Metroplex, Jesuit Dallas kicked off their season with 8-4 win over the Allen Eagles. Maintaining strong play was very important throughout the season for the Rangers, and it all began with a strong effort from the defense. Jesuit’s defense held the usually high scoring Allen to only 4 points, a truly difficult effort.
Woodlands: 15-2 W
Next, Jesuit absolutely dominated the Woodlands. Junior Timothy Tighe ’18 said of the game, “the team is always trying to get better no matter what; and, I think it showed against Woodlands.” Coming off of a closer match against Allen JV Lacrosse aimed at besting their previous performance by focusing on offense, and needless to say it showed. Sophomore Dylan Topolski had an especially eye opening outing, either contributing or scoring many of the 15 goals.
Plano West: 4-6 L
Jesuit’s first loss of the season came against one of the most competitive JV lacrosse teams in the state. On top of that, slow play and losing ground balls was pivotal, mistakes unusual for the high tempo, hustling Rangers. After the game, the team left with “heavy hearts,” as all players are striving to make the varsity squad, said Timothy Tighe. However, the team “only grew from the loss” and throughout the locker room “a special type of camaraderie” permeated the atmosphere. They would play on.
Austin Westlake: 16-0 W
Without parsing words here, Jesuit completely demolished their opponent. Sophomore goalie Will Moran ’19 had spent much of the season acting as a brick wall, after he only allowed 12 goals over the course of 3 games. Active midfielder Timmy Tighe remarked that Moran had been “locking it down” during games, his hard work and dedication to the team on display on this spectacular blowout.
Lake Travis: 7-4 W
Finally, in their last game in February, the Rangers managed a 7-4 victory against Lake Travis. A much more challenging foe than Austin Westlake, the Blue and Gold fought against complacency and emerged victorious. Finishing strong out of the month, a strong offensive and defensive efforts was what won Jesuit the match, seeing impressive performance with regard to hustle and superior mentality.
