The Parable of the Two Sons:
“What do you think?
“There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’
“‘I will not,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went.
“Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing.
“He answered, ‘I will, sir.’ But he did not go.
“Which of the two did what his father wanted?”
“The first,” they answered.
The Parable of the Two Sons is among the most well known stories in the Bible, and in this case, Jesuit’s JV football team can easily relate to what Jesus is teaching his disciples.
As Jesus describes which son was right and why, the point comes down to this: it is not how you start, but how you finish.
This season, Jesuit JV started “a little slow because we were getting into the swing of things and didn’t get much game-like experience before our first game,” according to head JV coach Rick Leal.
However, as the season progressed the team developed into a well-oiled machine, consistently crushing the opposition, including in their last game of the season against Berkner, a 35-0 shutout.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better way for the JV boys to close out season! Berkner has a solid program, so to see our boys play so well was fantastic. We played especially well on defense. Our defensive line did a great job of shutting down any runs, and our safeties prevented any big passing plays. It was because of our defense that Berkner didn’t put any points up on the board,” said Leal. “Our offense played great as well, and they were able to put up 5 touchdowns. And by executing on most offensive drives they took off any stress that was on the shoulders of the defense. It was a great game and a great way to finish the season.”
Coach Leal could not be more right! The Jesuit JV played a fantastic season and the whole Jesuit community has had a fantastic time watching them progress.
Just like the first son, they started off a little slow but finished strong, and we have God and the great coaching staff to thank for that!
Personally, it has been quite a ride watching the Jesuit JV progress through their victories and losses while writing an article about the majority of their games. Thank you all so much for a great season and keep it up next year!
