Jesuit Freshman Football Shows Big Promise

-

Beads of sweat stream down slanted, furrowing brows and rigid cheeks, letting gravity lead the burning drips of hard work to the green and lush grass. A black silhouette sprints past the thunderous sound of plastic striking plastic head-on. An oval-shaped brown object belts through the black fabric covering the sky as it hurtles toward the blue and gold jersey sprinting down the soft, grassy field.

To start off the 2016-2017 football season, the Jesuit freshmen football teams played their first high school games against DeSoto. Even though the blue team lost 20-6 and the gold team lost 14-9, the players fought hard and did not back down from the opposition.

Freshman Brandon Gossage ’20, a wide receiver, said that “It felt great to represent Jesuit on the football field. My favorite play of this game was the first pass reception thrown to me for 6 yards.” Reflecting on their battle against Desoto, Gossage con mentee, “I felt that we did well for our first game against a tough team.”

Coach Wunderlick likewise agreed with Gossage about team’s effort, saying, “Both teams competed hard. We knew our opponent, DeSoto, would be good, and they were. The blue team battled the entire game, and we were proud of the effort. The gold team had a chance to win at the end, and that experience will help them in the future. The defense played well, and the offense moved the ball consistently.” He was confident that “both teams will play hard every Thursday, and both will represent Jesuit and the football program very well,” Wunderlick looking fonward to a bright future this upcoming football season.

The brand new football season has brought hope, anticipation, and nothing less than excitement with the freshmen blue and gold teams. Players from both teams can not wait to get back out onto the turf and fight for a winning season.

Get ready for another heated game with the Ranger teams going up against Plano East on September 1st, 2016. Support and cheer on your new freshmen Rangers!
