A New Era for Student Council

-

As you all know by now, the new President and Vice President of the Jesuit Student Council were elected into office just this past Tuesday, March 15.  Out of the entire school, only 480 students showed up to vote, representing 60% of eligible voters.

Juniors Steven Mancillas and Evan Jackson won the election for the Student Council President and Vice President. When asked what the first thing they plan to do is, they replied by saying they wanted to make a “JesuitStuCo” email so that any Jesuit student could contact them in regards to anything they might need or any tips or suggestions they might have.

One more thing they would like to do is make more appearances at school events and speak publicly to the student body. “I believe that every student should know who the members of the student council are,” stated Vice President Evan Jackson, continuing by saying, “the only way to make this happen is through being more involved in all of the different aspects of Jesuit.”

Another issue that they want to help with is the well-known problem of the Wi-Fi dead zone on the freshman steps that every student has had to deal with one time or another.

When asked why he decided to run for student council, Mancillas responded by saying he believes it is the “best way to give back to the school that has done so much for me the past 3 years.”

Jackson believes that although Jesuit is such a great school, there are many areas that can be improved, even with things as minute as putting toasters in the cafeteria. Both presidents understand the commitment it takes to be a member of student council and look forward to helping make Jesuit better one step at a time. Steven has very strong feelings towards this and believes that Jesuit Student Council’s “constant involvement” is “essential in the Jesuit student life.”
