In a span of three games, the Rangers proved that they are a force to be reckoned with. Thus far, the Rangers have yet to lose. Jesuit Baseball continues to break barriers this year as the skilled team quickly rises through the ranks. With a new field, the Rangers look to continue their run throughout the rest of the season onto a state championship.
The Jesuit Team cruised by Sunset on March 17, with an easy win and a final score of 12-1 in the season opener on March 17. Harrison Folk ’15 started the game with only allowing two hits and one run in five innings. Darius Hill ’15 sealed the deal with a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth which then caused the run rule.
The following day, the Rangers defeated Sunset again as Grant Reuben ’15 hit three RBIs and Kyle Muller ’16 successfully shut out Sunset by striking out six batters in three hitless innings. Kyle acknowledges this as he states that “the team did great for the season opener, but there are still things we can do to get better like executing pitches, bunts, and having over bats.” Jesuit ended the game with a 11-0 win. “As a team we can always improve in all aspects of the game, ” says Darius Hill. “We will definitely need to do this in order to do well in the playoffs.”
The rising Jesuit team certainly showed promising signs of improvement in pitching, hitting, and running the bases against Skyline on March 24, as the Rangers came out swinging and scoring with a 10-0 win. Ranger hitters knocked in seven runs in the fifth inning to smother the competition, scoring on RBI singles from Nic Ready, Zach Shepherd and Jared Bond. Harrison Folk, only allowing one hit and striking out nine in five innings, successfully topped Skyline with ease. The 10-0 run rule victory was Folk’s fifth W of the season.
In the second Skyline matchup the following day, Kyle Muller threw three hitless innings and struck out six, bringing his season K total to 30 in 16 innings. The Rangers hit Skyline hard and early with a 3-for-5 night from Nic Ready, and two RBIs a piece from Zach Shepherd and Cameron Dobbs. The Rangers won 12-4.
Jesuit Baseball then faced Irving twice in 3 days with a pair of wins at 12-4 and 11-0. Kyle Muller delivered a stellar performance in both games: “We played well; the pitching was good and everyone started hitting well.” A major headline in this game was Darius Hill, who delivered a ridiculous walk-off home run.
With the start of the season under their belt, the Rangers have been the top team in their division, so be sure to come out and support them.
