The opposing basketball team lines up its players on the sideline. The Jesuit fans immediately grow quiet. The announcer begins calling out the names of the player of the opposite team while our fans quickly turn their backs. After a few moments, the last opposing player is called, and the other team begins to sit back down on their bench. The announcer now begins calling the names of the Jesuit players. The crowd turns back around and goes wild. They jump and scream to support our very own Jesuit Rangers.
Jesuit had two more big games this past week, playing WT White in the Battle for the Saddle on Feb. 3 and Irving McArthur on Feb. 6. Jesuit won a big game against WT White, absolutely dominating them. Unfortunately though, Jesuit lost a heart-wrenching game to Irving McArthur just days later. With such a great season wrapping up, Jesuit seems to be staying strong on the road to play-offs. We should see more greats wins as the basketball season wraps up.
Jesuit played very well against Wt. White, handily winning by a score of 74-56. Everyone shot the ball and played really well, with four players scoring double digit amounts. Michael McReynolds ’15 really stood out with a double-double, scoring seventeen points and grabbing eleven rebounds. Also, three other players really played well: Christian Chiles ’15, Chris Nwosu ’15, and Peter Lynch ’15 combined for fifty three of the seventy four points, each scoring between 10-17 points. Dixon Smith ’17 commented on the game saying, “It was a great game for our team, we really came together well and just played like a team.” It was a great win for our Rangers and hopefully we will see more games like this in the future.
Unfortunately, Jesuit lost a tight game against Irving McArthur on February 6, by the score of 39-47. Jesuit had a tough time scoring, with only two players, Peter Lynch ’15 and Christian Chiles ’15 putting up more than ten points. These two had ten and eleven points respectively, and both played very well in the game. Unfortunately, it was just a tough game for Jesuit. In the end, McArthur was able to out-rebound and out-shoot the Rangers. It was nonetheless a great game, very close until the very end. Mitch Prendergast ’17 talked about the game and said, “It was close but unfortunately they came out on top. We knew they were a good team, and games likes this help us see the areas that we can improve for the future.” Hopefully, Jesuit will get even better as a team after this game, because there are many more hard matches still left in the season.
