Expository Bowl Preview

-

When I think of The Roundup and their chances in the Expository Bowl, the first thing that comes to mind is smash mouth football. With guys like Sam Powell ’17, Michael Lanham ’15, and Dominic “Potroast” Iannelli ’15 leading the way, this is clearly going to be a one-sided, dominant game in favor of The Roundup.

First off, let me point out a few important players for both teams at some positions to watch:

Offensive Line- The Roundup has the clear advantage at this position solely because of the dynamic duo known as Chase squared. Juniors Chase Kirkland and Chase Ryan will both make their first starts at this position and have a clear advantage over the varsity squad.

Quarterback- At QB, it’s a close battle for pocket-passer Bo Schneider ’15 for the football team. Don’t get me wrong, Bo Schneider is a great guy off the field and a great pocket-passer, but he doesn’t know what he’s getting himself into against corners like Michael Lanham ’15 and Sam Betanzos ’16.

Roundup quarterback Jack Durham ’16 believes that he has the upper hand in the QB face-off, saying that “I’m not naming anyone specific, but I’m the best quarterback to ever live and that gives us the advantage.”

Additionally, Schneider may have trouble finding open receivers in the intimidating The Roundup secondary. Cornerback Lanham noted that senior “Charlie Eikenberg’s a great guy, but that’s not gonna keep me from shutting him down. He’s gonna wish he had just hung up the pads in November.”

Running back- This is the position where The Roundup really shows its smash mouth play. With Ryan Brooks ’16 clearing holes for Bobby Wunderlick ’17, this dynamic duo will be deadly out of the backfield, clearly giving The Roundup the advantage over the football team.

Wide Receiver- At Wide Receiver, The Roundup has two receivers that resemble Calvin Johnson. Dom “Dez” Iannelli and “Prison Mike” Lanham add their size to the Roundup’s advantage, making them unable to be covered. Their size provides them an advantage over the football team’s receivers Peter Lynch ’15, Garrett Amy ’15, and “Golden Boy” Cha Eikenberg ’15.

Dom Iannelli promised that “If I weren’t Editor-in-Chief of The Roundup, I’d be starting over Garrett Amy on Varsity football. There’s no doubt in my mind.”

Defensive Line- The defensive line is arguably The Roundup’s biggest advantage in this hyped up bowl game. Brooks and Elliot Hartman ’15 lead the defensive line for The Roundup. The most important part about this D-line is the backup they have. Guys like Sam Powell and Michael Boyson are cleaning up the miss for the D Line at the interior linebacker position.

When all said and done, The Roundup definitely has the upper hand in this year’s bowl game. The game will take place January 16th at 4:00 PM in Pasadena, California….I mean at Postell Stadium.
