This past Thursday night, the boys in blue were challenged by the Irving Nimitz Vikings at home in Postell Stadium. New to the district, Nimitz was an interesting opponent, due to their lack of 6A experience.
First to take the field was Blue Team. The Rangers came out strong in the first half and showed openly who the controller of the field would be.
In the first half alone, the Blue Team scored 33 points with minimal resistance from the Vikings. QB Alek Mcglone had three touchdown passes and a 39 yard run for a personal score. WR’s Joe Przybyski and William Schneider were both consistent throughout the game with multiple catches thrown to them by McGlone. After many successful receptions, McGlone shows his athletic prowess by managing to slip away from Viking defenders after a bad snap and connect with WR Nicholas Penn for a 35 yard touchdown.
After the halftime break Jesuit ran the clock and kept their sportsmanship in check, even if they were ahead by 38 points by that point in the game. “Even though we were beating the other team at halftime by a lot, we played like it was 0-0 at the beginning of the second half.” says Omar Dibba.
On top of all of the offensive success, the defense also shined. In the first quarter there was a sack in the Nimitz backfield led by Daniel Nguyen and the rest of the by the rest of the defense, who was “unstoppable. Our defense scored almost half of our points and allowed flexibility for offense to do
thier magic.” says Jacob Totah. In the second quarter Peter Hundley zeroed-in on the eyes of the QB and tracked the pass until he himself intercepted it and returned it for a quick score. In the third quarter, with the game drawing to a close, Gus Walker slammed the Vikings ball-carrier and caused a fumble.
Although they put up a good fight, Nemitz was outmatched by the Rangers and Blue Team finished out the game 46-8, boosting their record to 5-1.
Last but not least, the Rangers Gold Team took the field. Pumped up by the earlier Blue Team win, the Gold Team hoped for a similar outcome to their game.
In the first quarter, the Rangers quickly put some points on the board with a 12 yard touchdown pass from Jagger LaRoe to Grayson Hassell, followed in quick succession by a 1 yard carry by Hank Clements to score, which ended the first quarter with a 14-0 lead over the Vikings.
Early on in the second quarter LaRoe found Fletcher Rosenbleeth, who ran like the wind for the touchdown. But after this, Jesuit got creative. A defensive powerhouse, Nicky Prendergast got another pick-six to bump up the Jesuit score. Only moments after, Fletcher Rosenbleeth was at it again, with a whopping 55 yard punt return for a Ranger touchdown. The first half came to a close with Jesuit up 27-0 on Nemitz.
Coming out of the half, the gold Team kept their cool and maintained their routine of gaining positive yardage.
In the third quarter, Cade Brewer recovered a fumble in the end zone to make it 34-0 Rangers.
Closing the fourth quarter, with a 75 yard kick return for a touchdown, Fletcher Rosenbleeth sealed the fate of the Vikings and ended the game with his his third touchdown of the night.
Gold Team won 41-12, with another Ranger sweep being added to the list. “I thought both teams played well, and I thought both teams played hard” said Head Coach Bob Wunderlick, content with the athleticism displayed by the boys in blue.
