Jesuit Theatre Preview

-

Students rehearsing their lines, the set being constructed, and the curtain opening back up, Jesuit Theatre prepares to kick off the 2012-2013 school year.  The Jesuit Theatre program has been working hard to make 2012 the best year of theatre yet.

Led by Mr. Myers, actors and actresses from Jesuit and Ursuline have been working since the first day of school in all different types of theatre to get ready for the exciting events planned during this school year.

Theatre will put on four different productions throughout this year, beginning in November.  The main production of the fall will be One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, which will premier November 9th, and play again on the 10th, 16th, and 17th. This drama follows the main character “Chief” Bromden and his constant rebellion throughout his life.

Starting out the 2013 year, students will perform the Winter One-Acts. This famed collection of short scenes has been leaving the audience dying from laughter for several years now. This performance will take place on January 9th and 10th, which falls right after the Christmas holiday.

The main production of the spring will be Rumors. This comedy follows the plot of multiple wealthy couples having a dinner party. But the guests find that the servants have disappeared and the host of the party has killed himself. The play follows the guests as they try to cover up the evening’s events. This performance will take place April 5th, 6th, 11th, and 12th.

As the school year concludes, the Spring One-Acts will provide comedic relief as finals week draws near. Just like the Winter One-Acts, laughter echoes through the halls of the lecture hall while this hilarious show takes place. Come check out many actors from the class of 2013 in their last performance at Jesuit between May 15th and 18th.

In addition to these four performances, a senior community service group, called the Drama Troupe, performs weekly shows at schools teaching kids important lessons in a fun and enjoyable way.  Members of this troupe spread laughter and teach about life, while also advocating for the involvement of youth in programs like Drama and Theatre.

With issues such as casting still uncertain, one thing definitely is certain: this school year will be chalked full of awesome performances by Jesuit’s Theatre department, and will be worth exploring at every possible chance.  For more information regarding Jesuit Theatre, visit the Jesuit website and click on the Performing Arts page.
