Jesuit Dallas Museum 25th Anniversary

-

On Wednesday, February 29th, 2012, the Jesuit Dallas Museum will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a reception to honor alumni artists and other Jesuit Dallas Museum artists. This two and a half hour event will take place in the Terry Center.

Additionally, the following day, numerous artists will be demonstrating different types of art from 10am-2pm. Some of these artists include Kay Dalton (Painting), Jane Ladik (Icons), Peggy Epner (Encaustic), Bill DeOre (Cartooning), Raymond Ochs (Ceramics), JD Miller (Oil Painting), Sharon Neel-Bagley (Photography), Matt Bagley (Woodcut Prints), Julie Redmond (Art of Food), Bob Munro (Photography), and Liz Conrad Goedecke (Mixed Media).

Finally, for those of you interested in the museum art, tours will be held throughout the day. The tours will depart from the front desk of the school at 10am, 11am, and 1pm.

The Jesuit Dallas Museum is truly a remarkable place. Think about it- over 1,000 teenage boys spend 7 hours a day for 5 days a week roaming through the halls of the museum that functions alternatively as a selective college preparatory school. Jesuit students can often get fairly rowdy, but no matter how rowdy they get, they know never to mess with any of the 490 pieces throughout the school.

I know that when I started attending Jesuit, I saw a couple of art pieces here and there, but I didn’t realize that my school was actually a museum. It took me half a year to notice that in big, bold letters on the front wall of Jesuit, it doesn’t read “Jesuit College Preparatory School” but rather “Jesuit Dallas Museum.”

Connor Fox ’13 captured the feeling, saying, “The museum is very cool because of the fact that it is inside of the school.” The museum has played a huge role in bringing beauty and history to the campus that we all know and love. As Fox noted, “The students connect with the art’s beauty.”
