The Giants of the NFC

-

This year’s National Football Conference (NFC) has been marked with particularly dominating teams. This past week has been no exception, with the top two teams in the NFC winning again.

The Green Bay Packers became the first team in the NFL this season to win 10 games and are poised to make a serious run at a perfect season, a feat almost accomplished by the 2007 New England Patriots. With the second best record in the league, the San Francisco 49ers sit atop their division at 9-1 and can clinch a playoff berth with a win next week.

Though these teams are the two best in the conference, their game plans could not be more different. The Packers rely on a high-powered offense centered on the arm of expected-MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers, while the 49ers dominate with a tough-as-nails defense led by middle linebacker Patrick Willis.

Now, the major question for the rest of the season is which of these two teams will win the Super Bowl? Any true football analyst can tell you that to win a championship you need defense. With their suffocating defense, I predict that the San Francisco 49ers will be winning their sixth Super Bowl in franchise history this February.

The 49ers drafted Patrick Willis in the first round of the 2007 draft out of Ole Miss, where he was recruited as a 3 star linebacker from high school. In college, he developed to be one of the top middle linebackers in the nation, one who not only hit hard but also possessed lightning fast speed.

Finally, after many losing seasons, he is on a winning team that may be able to slow down the fast-paced Green Bay offense. It is only Week 11, but no other team has shown the ability to win games this season better than these two NFC giants. There are still six weeks left, but for each team that could mean six more weeks closer to another Super Bowl.
