Jesuit Bowling Clinches a Spot in the Regional Tournament with a 12-3 Win over Skyline.

-

The showdown between the Jesuit Bowling team and Skyline took place at 1:30 pm on Saturday, February 19, 2011, with the winner clinching a spot in the regional tournament.

The match began with five individual matches, each consisting of two games. Nathan Leiter, Jonathan Mendiola, David Portner, Steven Borik, & Connor Christina started out against the Skyline starting lineup. Luckily, Skyline’s top player, Son Nuggen, was stuck in traffic after paint-balling earlier that day giving, Jesuit the edge during the individual matches.  After the first round of individual matches, Taylor Tibbits subbed in for Steven Borik who was down over 40 points after Skyline’s Nick Wright had a lucky game. It was lights out after that. Taylor blew Nick out of the water with a 197, winning the overall individual match. With that, Jesuit was up by five at 6-1 with Nathan, Jonathan, Taylor, and Connor all winning their individual matches.

It was then time for baker bowl, where five players from each team bowled two frames in three games.  As each baker game is worth double the points of an individual game, Skyline still had a chance to catch up in the match. In the first game, Jesuit scored a measly 126, allowing Skyline to live a little longer; but Jesuit bowled a 134 to win the second game, clinching an 8-3 advantage over Skyline. There was no place for Skyline to come back, but it wasn’t over yet. Jesuit won the third game with a 145, guaranteeing another two points and pushing the score to 10-3. Now, because it had the most overall points, Jesuit received two more, giving them a 12-3 victory over Skyline, clinching a spot in the Regional Tournament on Saturday, March 5. Go Rangers!!!
