Not only one of the best tennis players ever, Federer is considered one of the best athletes ever with his pure skill and grace on court. Roger Federer has broken about just every record on tour and will always be considered one of the best.
Some of Federer’s Most Impressive Records
Most likely the most impressive untouchable record Federer has is having the most consecutive weeks at number one in the world with, 237 weeks in a row. No one will beat this for a long time, with the second most in a row at 160 weeks from Jimmy Connors.
Additionally, from 2003 to 2005, Federer won 24 consecutive tour-level finals, which means that he was pretty much unbeatable for two years in a row. Federer began his run by beating Carlos Moya in the Vienna Open in 2003 and ends at loosing a tough match at the Nitto ATP finals in 2005.
Also, one of the most difficult tournaments to win is the grand slams and Roger Federer won Wimbledon and the U.S. Open 5 consecutive years in a row. Winning Wimbledon from 2003 to 2007 and the U.S. Open from 2004 to 2008, Roger’s record of 20 grand slams will most definitely remain at the top.
Lastly, Roger will always be considered the King of Grass and to prove his dominance he won 65 straight matches on grass. With winning Wimbledon for a record 8 times, he is also known for winning ten times the Halle Open.
Federer’s Last Match
Playing with his long time rival, Rafael Nadal, in doubles, Federer played his last match at the Laver Cup 2022. In a tough and emotional battle, the GOAT pair lost to the American duo Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock. The match score was 4-6, 7-6(2), 11-9, with Federer loosing. The match was full with long and intense rallies with phenomenal put-away volleys. Both teams played exceptionally, but at the end Tiafoe and Sock edged closer to the finish line with Sock’s forehand winner to win the match.
After the match, there was a big ceremony for Federer for the recognition of his great career. Many hugs and cheers were given to Federer’s closest teammates and friends as his career came to an end. A commemorative video was played describing Federer’s great sportsmanship, personality on and off the court, and pure skill in the game of tennis. Also, an emotional interview was conducted that brought Federer to tears in the realization of his last match. Federer spoke about his great career and thanked many people that were inspirational in his career. Most importantly, he thanked his wife, Mirka, for the dedication and love she has towards him and the support that she has for his career. The ceremony ended with many hugs and Team Europe and World joining together to pick Roger Federer up in all of his achievements to the game. Then Federer’s family came on center court to enjoy the emotional moment with him.
A Living Legend
While his retirement, ended in a loss, Roger’s career speaks for itself as a life long achievement complete. Even though his professional tennis career is finished, Roger is a successful entrepreneur, philanthropist, and said he will be heavily involved with the game still.
To tennis fans and just anyone, Roger Federer’s fame has sparked inspiration to many people to become a better tennis player, but also just a better person. While many people were in tears at the end of the match, Roger is now able to live “new” life away from tennis. Roger Federer’s twenty four year and over 1500 matches played tennis career ended on September 23, 2022.
