Introduction

The SWEAT Ergometer Race took center stage on February 3rd at the Terry Center. This high-intensity event pushed rowers to their limits, testing essential abilities such as strength, pacing, and speed. Crews from across the nation gathered to compete.

Coxswain Races:

One of the things that make SWEAT unique is the coxswains rowing against one another in a 1,000-meter race. The race showcased exceptional skill and strategy. Here are the top performers:

Jesuit Freshman rowing, taken by Mario Jaar ’24

Gabe Gerik ’26 secured first place with an impressive time of 3 minutes and 47.1 seconds. Walker Bowman ’26 claimed second place, finishing in 3 minutes and 51.0 seconds. Dallas Rowing Club: Earned third place, completing the race in 3 minutes and 53.2 seconds. Finally, Andrew Wilkes ’25 held the fourth place with a time of 4 minutes and 5.4 seconds.

Men’s Lightweight Freshman Races:

The lightweight freshmen battled fiercely. Notable results include St. Marks, who dominated with first place and a time of 7 minutes and 8.8 seconds. Jesuit’s Luke Egner ’27 followed closely in second place, finishing in 7 minutes and 30 seconds. Ben Smith ’27 held the third position, crossing the line at 7 minutes and 49.1 seconds.

Men’s Heavyweight Freshman Races:

The heavyweight freshmen displayed raw power. Here’s how they fared: St. Marks took the top spot with an impressive time of 6 minutes and 57.4 seconds. Rock City Rowing placed second, completing the race in 7 minutes and 9.3 seconds. Finally, Jesuit’s Owen Kubalak ’27 claimed third place, arriving at the finish line at 7 minutes and 15.0 seconds.

Men’s Junior Lightweight Races:

The junior lightweight category witnessed intense competition. St. Mark’s won with a timed row of 6 minutes and 59.5 seconds. Jesuit earned second place, with Dawson Zavala ’24 rowing a swift 7 minutes and 5.2 seconds. Jesuit’s Becket Gonzales ’25 and Kieran Pack ’25 secured fifth and sixth places, clocking in at 7 minutes and 22.6 seconds and 7 minutes and 24.9 seconds, respectively.

Men’s Junior Single:

Finally, Jesuit rowers stood out in the final race. Royce Szarzynski ’25 finished fifth, rowing the distance in 6 minutes and 50.6 seconds. Matthew Firley ’25, right behind, claimed sixth place with a timed row of 6 minutes and 50.8 seconds.

Conclusion:

Despite not being their best performance, SWEAT showed the immense talent Jesuit Crew holds. Team captain, Dawson Zavala ’24, said this regarding the team’s efforts:
