Ciao Jesuit! Italian Club to Host “Cars and Cannolis”

-

Italian culture is known for beautiful art, delicious food, fast cars, and good times.  Proud Italian, called by some the “Italian Stallion,” Charlie Turano, III ’13, founded the Italian Club of Jesuit with fellow Italian – Matt Mentesana ’12.  Their intentions were to celebrate their unique culture, continue to have good times, and share their culture with the rest of the Jesuit community.

On his idea to found the Italian Club of Jesuit, Turano said he “created it with not only personal interests, but also support from the Italian Club of Dallas and the National Italian American Foundation.”

In conjunction with the Jesuit Car Club, the Italian Club of Jesuit is hosting a show for all car enthusiasts in the Jesuit community, including current students and alumni.  On Saturday May 12, they will host their “Cars and Cannolis” event in the junior parking lots on the Jesuit campus.

Festivities will start at 8:00 in the morning and run until 11:00 a.m. or so.  According to Turano, “All car enthusiasts are invited to get together and show off their cars.”  The club is expecting many different models and makes of cars, ranging from “Ferraris to Old American muscle [cars] to Porsches,” and even to Charlie’s own black and white striped Camaro.

Charlie and fellow club members are offering hand-made, fresh cannolis and coffee during the entirety of the car show.  For those who do not know, a cannoli is a small Italian pastry that is filled with ricotta cheese and either fruit or candy.  Turano simply remarked that cannolis are “quite delicious.”

Turano inferred that “Cars and Cannolis” will be the first of many events held by the Italian Club: “Incorporating two main aspects of Italian culture will jumpstart the club at Jesuit, getting lots of people involved and interested in Italian culture.”  Finally, Turano expressed his true desire to erase the stereotypes of Italians.

The Italian Club of Jesuit looks to have great success Friday and further into the future.

Come out and enjoy some awesome cars and delicate cannolis on Saturday.  For more information contact Charlie Turano, III ’13 on Moodle or on the Italian Club of Jesuit Facebook Page.
