Student Council Welcomes Students Back

-

Below is the first address of Student Council this year written by Student Body President Will Florer ’20 and Student Body Vice President Will Nickols ’20.

Dear Jesuit,

We hope you had a great summer full of rest, recharging, friends and family time, and maybe even a little learning.  As we start the school year, we want to update you about our recent Student Council projects.

Since May, we have held six full council meetings where we:

  • Presented reports from the sophomore and junior classes’ meetings with teachers about academics, student life, and ideas they think would improve the Jesuit experience
  • Presented reports from our administrator meetings
  • Presented a report from our meeting with Sage including:
    • Opening up nutritional info
    • Adding an ice cream machine
    • Serving chocolate milk on some days of the week
    • Stocking Tapatio and Chilula
    • Changing the bussing order
    • Having parents help for special meal days
    • Discussed and presented to administration a proposal for a foosball table
  • Discussed and presented to administration a proposal for ESPN in Hughes Hall
  • Discussed the facial hair policy with administration
  • Began organizing the freshman mixer and the related finances
  • Wrote thank you notes to the Sage employees on behalf of the student body

Upcoming projects and school events include:

  • A suggestion table on August 23rd during all three lunch periods outside the cafeteria to gather ideas for projects this year
  • Setting up ESPN to be played in Hughes Hall
  • Organizing and running the freshman mixer on September 7th
  • The Mass of the Holy Spirit is on August 30th and all students are invited to continue the tradition of wearing red ties

We want the entire Student Body to have the opportunity to know what your elected representatives are working on and the ability to suggest future ideas for the Student Council. So, as a reminder, the suggestion box is on the main Moodle page, our meeting minutes and a spreadsheet for our projects are published on the Student Council Moodle page, and our letters can be found on the Student Council Moodle page or in The Roundup.

Go Rangers,

Will Florer and William Nickols

Student Body President and Vice-President
