Please tell me you’re getting the tickets… Jesuit’s Got Talent is coming up soon, February 25th from 7-11p.m. to be exact. Tickets go on sale Monday, February 21 at Jesuit, Hockaday and Ursuline for just five dollars preordered or seven dollars at the door, so how can anyone resist going to live performances from fellow Jesuit brothers?
If you’re wondering what exactly Jesuit’s Got Talent (JGT) is, the best way to find out is to buy tickets and go, but in short, it boasts live bands, comedians, and possibly some poetry.
One of the best parts about JGT is that there is never a dull moment. The setup for the evening includes two stages for performers with one act, with another performance beginning on the second stage as soon as the first finishes. The mood of JGT’s one acts is described by Corey Marr, a freshman counselor who is behind the entire show: “Generally there are two different types of acts: an electric main stage where we have drums, keyboard, base, and guitar. That’s pretty amplified, loud, and it’s usually pretty upbeat, but in between acts you might have people do stand-up comedy, poetry, or one guy with his guitar.”
The acts included in JGT this year are: Bucketolotta, Sam Ford ’11, The Resistance of Flightless Pigeons, The New Guys, No Name Band, A Little Less Than Pi, Alex Venegas (’13) & Co, Men Who Doodle, and The Topsiders. When asked what his favorite act would be Mr. Marr said, “That’s tough. Because of the construction this year, we didn’t get to do a lot of the tail gate parties that we used to do, so I really haven’t seen the bands other than at Ranger Day, and that was really short, like 15 or 20 minutes.” Marr is, however, very excited to hear the new bands. “I’m excited to hear what people are going to do because some people are playing that I’ve never seen play before … This will be the first year I don’t think we really know what to expect.”
But one thing this year can be expected: high attendance, and as most of the bands are from the junior class, organizers expect to see a lot of juniors. Seniors also traditionally make up a large portion of the attendees.
Behind all the fun that happens from 7:00-11:00, there is a more serious underlying theme to the entire day: clean water. February 25th is Aware Fest, Issues Day, and Jesuit’s Got Talent. On the way into the assembly hall in the Terry Center there will be booths set up giving information on this topic and how to help with the issue of clean water. So whether you’re going for the entertainment or the information you’re sure to have a good time, see you there!
