While some may argue that the Jesuit Dallas Varsity hockey team’s performance at Minnesota on March 23-25, 2023 was disappointing, the team displayed impressive displays against top competing teams in nationals.
Tournament Games
Jesuit Dallas versus Brookings Rangers (SD)
Opening the tournament, Jesuit Dallas faced their most challenging game against a top-performing team in nationals. The Brookings Rangers would later place second, losing in the Championship game.
“I am proud of our team throughout this season and am happy that we were able to play in nationals.” – Assistant Captain Ryan Virkar
The game’s final score was 8-0, with Brookings taking the victory. Notable goalie Jason Hess ’23, played ecstatic, suffering 40 shots total.
Jesuit Dallas versus Wayzata JGA (MN)
The tournament’s second game featured Jesuit Dallas versus the native to Minnesota, Wayzata. Wayzata would later lose in the quarter-finals of nationals.
The game’s final score was 3-0, with Wayzata taking the victory. Again, Jason Hess played an impressive game, facing 30 total shots.
Jesuit Dallas versus St. Anthony’s Friars (NY)
Jesuit Dallas’ final game faced the St. Anthony’s Friars. The Friars would later lose in the national semi-finals against the national champions.
The game’s final score was 7 to 0 in favor of the Friars. Yet again, Jason Hess played a fantastic game against another challenging opponent, facing 39 total shots.

Even though the outcome of the weekend was unfortunate, the team learned a lot about what it takes to compete with some of the top teams in the nation. But, the team cannot wait for next year, when they will compete for their 6th consecutive state championship and another appearance in the USA Hockey National Championships.
