“This was a night to remember.” Such a powerful phrase to describe an amazing dance, such was the scene on October 29th when Jesuit Dallas hosted the annual Junior/Senior Homecoming Dance.
The event took place in the Terry Center, with over 800 students in attendance. Jesuit’s student council organized the event, putting in countless hours to make the night the most fun for everyone. In addition to the astounding DJ and dance floor provided by Jesuit, there were poker tables, a photo booth, and wings courtesy of Buffalo Wild Wings.
Since Halloween was just around the corner, the Student Council decided to pick the holiday as the theme of Homecoming 2016, continuing the tradition of Seniors being able to dress up in their Halloween costumes for the dance. Costumes ranged from your favorite TV personality to famous historical and political figures.
With the help of many student volunteers, the preparation for the dance took no extra time according to Senior Class President Abbas Hussain ’17, who dressed up as the great Muhammad Ali. Hussain described the night as a “massive success.” He continued to say that “we are always looking for ways to improve the dances, and I think we accomplished that with this year’s dance. We did not procrastinate the setting up or cleaning up process.” As a student participating in the homecoming dance activities, Hussain enjoyed the “dance floor and the tasty treat of Whataburger after the dance concluded. The DJ also did a great job.”
Jack Barone ’18 praised the terrific work done by the student council and Jesuit, sharing with the Roundup, “The dance was great. I really liked the classic dance floor with the DJ in the Terry Center, and then the more quiet cafeteria was perfect for conversation and poker.”
Barone’s thought were echoed by Connor Thomas, a junior who was able to attend the dance for the first time, as he shared, “The dance was very fun and well organized, and I can’t wait for next year’s homecoming when we can dress up.” William Fynes ’18, a classmate of Thomas, agreed by giving “props to the Student Council for giving us such a fun night with a great DJ, great food, and a fun casino. Since I’m a junior, this was my first dance at Jesuit, and I had a great time and look forward to next year.”
Senior Jack Matthews, who dressed up as agent Burt Macklin from the well-liked show Parks and Recreation, particularly enjoyed the “senior costumes, because that was something [he] always looked forward to as an underclassmen.”
In the end, the 2016 Jesuit/Ursuline Homecoming Dance was a success in large part to the hard work of the student council and faculties of both schools. The event provided fun for everyone, and the students are looking forward to the next dance.
