Jesuit JV Falls in a Loss to Coppell

-

An unfamiliar crowd surrounds the Jesuit JV football team shouting an array of boos, as they jog onto the unfamiliar field at Coppell. Heads still held high, the boys in blue and gold give it their all throughout the game, but come up short.

The game, which took place on October 2 at Coppell Stadium, ended with a Jesuit loss, despite a valiant effort. The Rangers were “caught off guard by Coppell’s offense, and couldn’t seem to bust through their defense,” commented Head Coach Rick Leal. The JV team was only able to put up 1 touchdown in the first three-quarters, but finished strong, scoring another touchdown before the end of the game. Despite their best efforts, the JV likewise left the field without a win, losing the battle 14-21.

One of Jesuit’s more experienced JV players, Gus Walker ’18, commented, “We just didn’t play our best football, and I guess Coppell did.” It wasn’t only Gus who felt the loss was due to weak performance; sophomore Ryan Eubanks echoed this belief adding, “We came out stronger in the second half, but because of our bad performance early on, we couldn’t finish with a win.”

Earlier in the season, after a loss to Desoto, Coach Leal commented, “It was kind of a growing game for us, you know? I think we learned a lot and will come back stronger next week.” Unfortunately, we haven’t quite seen this happen yet, but the Jesuit community will keep their heads high in hope of some better games.
In the words of legendary football player and coach Vince Lombardi, “The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that, whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.” This inspirational belief certainly applies to Jesuit’s JV team, as they march into their next week of competition with their heads held high, clawing for success.
