Baseball and Hot Dogs

-

Friday’s dedication of Wright Field on the campus of Jesuit College Prep features a long list of entertaining draws. In addition to pre-game ceremonies and free giveaways, nationally-ranked Jesuit Baseball takes on W.T. White and looks to defend its perfect District 9-6A record.

But one of the most unexpected events of the evening will come in the middle of the third inning, as Jesuit hosts its first ever hotdog-vs-ketchup-vs-mustard race.

The race features three of Jesuit’s most feared athletes and wordsmiths: senior Bo Schneider, senior managing editor of The Roundup Michael Lanham, and track/football coach Charles Hinton Jr. The buildup has been nothing short of explosive.

“I’ll crush him,” says Lethal Mike Lanham. “When UCF sees this race, they’re going to take away Bo’s scholarship offers.”

Laughter erupts from Bo “I’m Not That Slow” Schneider: “I beat him last time. I’ll beat him again this time. No mercy.”

But while both of the Jesuit seniors talk noise and wage a Twitter battle using #teammike and #teambo, they seem to be forgetting about the underdog of the race: Charles GOAT Hinton, who quite literally teaches kids to run for a living.

“I’ve been carbo-loading for 24 years waiting for this exact moment,” the coach says.

Friday’s game begins at 7:30 p.m., and the highly-anticipated race will take place in the middle of the third inning.
