As the first semester winds down, seniors begin to think about where they are going to continue studying for the next four years. This past Wednesday, November 15th, four Jesuit seniors, Nic Ready, Darius Hill, Gavin McClure, and J.C. Campbell, signed their National Letters of Intent, making their commitment to the colleges they will be officially attending.
Darius Hill, an incredible All-American varsity baseball athlete, signed his letter to attend West Virginia University. Hill has been playing baseball since he was three years old, so signing to play in college was a big deal for him. Despite receiving offers from other junior colleges and a strong interest from Baylor, Hill committed to West Virginia his junior year after receiving an offer from them in November of 2013. Hill decided to join West Virginia’s team because “of the elite coaching staff, the brand new ballpark, the beautiful surrounding area [of campus], and the chance to play in the Big 12 Conference.”
Nic Ready, Darius’ varsity baseball teammate, will also further his athletic career in college, making his commitment to the prestigious Air Force Academy on Wednesday. Ready chose the Academy over other top schools such as Dartmouth and Columbia. Like Hill, Ready also received his offer from the Air Force Academy a little over a year ago. When asked why he chose the Air Force Academy, Ready responded, “I chose the Academy because they have a great baseball program but more importantly because of the opportunities in education that it can offer me.” Ready added that “the benefits and future possibilities presented to me by attending the school made it the school I want to attend.” Ready joins only 58 other Jesuit alumni to receive an appointment to one of the prestigious military academies.
Gavin “G-Money” McClure, a varsity four year standout performer and leader on the lacrosse field, signed his letter with Washington & Lee, an academically rigorous school with a solid lacrosse program. McClure, after visiting this past summer, knew Washington and Lee was the school for him, as it was “the only school that I really wanted to play at, I loved the campus and it is a school with academic prestige with lots of alumni connections across the country.” McClure followed by saying that it was an easy choice.
J.C. Campbell, a member of the Jesuit Golf team, made his commitment to the University of Memphis official. Campbell has many incredible score cards on his résumé, including one that made him a medalist at the District 9-6A competition last year.
All four athletes have a very bright future and hopefully we will be hearing more news about them for years to come.
