Pure Domination: Jesuit Swimming & Diving Wins Third Consecutive District Title

Jesuit Swimming and Diving dominated the UIL District 7-6A Championships, held January 30 at the Gull. Faculty, staff, parents, and students showed-out to watch the Rangers clinch their third-consecutive District title. The Rangers scored 244 points to finish ahead of JJ Pearce (142), Richardson (63), Lake Highlands (34), Berkner (18), Irving Macarthur (8), and Irving (6). As a result of this dominant performance, Jesuit will send almost a 20-man squad to the Region 2-6A Championships, which will be held February 6-7 at Lewisville ISD’s Westside Aquatic Center. Head Coach Doug Moyse and Jonah Ruhl ’27 took home District honors. Additionally, Head Diving Coach Sierra Thain won District Diving Coach of the Year.

District Champions

200 Medley Relay

Women: JJ Pearce (Olivia Grossman, Josie Selfridge, Lilah Jarvis, Lily Ruth Scott)

Men: Jesuit Dallas (Michael Tobin, Grant Wilton, Drew Shippey, Porter Pope)

The Rangers kick-started things with a win in the 200 Medley Relay. The squad of Michael Tobin ’27, Grant Wilton ’27, Drew Shippey ’27, and Porter Pope ’28 swam a 1:41.16 to beat JJ Pearce. Tobin led off in a 26.63. Wilton and Shippey split 28.30 and 23.99, respectively, and Pope anchored in a 22.24.

200 Freestyle

Women: Abigail Reimer, Richardson

Men: Aaron Locker, JJ Pearce

The Rangers got all four swimmers into the region meet. Sebastian Suwanda ’26 (1:46.48) swam a tight race with Pearce’s Aaron Locker, losing a nailbiter. The Rangers took places four through six with JP McCosker ’27 (1:50.41), Peter Hasik ’27 (1:54.28), and Noah Ruhl ’28 (1:54.77) having great swims.

200 Individual Medley

Women: Lilah Jarvis, JJ Pearce

Men: Jonah Ruhl, Jesuit Dallas

Jonah Ruhl ’27 dominated the event with a 1:51.66, fourteen one-hundredths off his seed time. Michael Tobin swam a 2:07.89 to finish fourth. Javi Ruiz ’28 and Ian Reichert ’29 took fifth and sixth, respectively, securing their entries into the Region meet.

50 Freestyle

Women: Lily Ruth Scott, JJ Pearce

Men: Sam Kennington, Jesuit Dallas

Sam Kennington ’26 secured a second consecutive District title in the 50, winning the event in a 21.11. Fellow senior Luke Lary ’26 was close behind with a 21.82. Jackson Addison-Jordan ’26, who made his debut after a months-long back injury, finished fourth with a 23.06, while Charlie Plummer ’28 finished fifth with a time of 23.71.

1-Meter Diving

Women: Jordis Watkins, Lake Highlands

Men: Michael Evans, JJ Pearce

A pair of sophomores secured entries into the Region meet. Koby Broad ’28 finished fourth with a score of 295.35. Kobus Brewton ’28 would come in fifth, finishing with an 11-dive score of 244.80. Additionally, Koen Mathys ’27 finished out his season with a strong PR of 206.60.

100 Butterfly

Women: Lilah Jarvis, JJ Pearce

Men: Luke Lary, Jesuit Dallas

Last year, Jesuit’s 2025 District MVP Drew Shippey won the 100 Fly over Luke Lary. This year, Lary got his revenge, winning the event in a 50.57. Shippey came in second with a 52.21. Javi Ruiz wrapped up the Ranger’s Regional qualifiers in this event, finishing fifth with a 58.68.

100 Freestyle

Women: Georgia Rick, JJ Pearce

Men: Jonah Ruhl, Jesuit Dallas

The Rangers took the top four spots in this event. Jonah Ruhl won the event in a time of 45.87. Sam Kennington and Porter Pope finished second (48.07) and third (48.29), respectively. In his second event, Jackson Addison-Jordan finished fourth with a 50.89.

500 Freestyle

Women: Lily Ruth Scott, JJ Pearce

Men: Aaron Locker, Jesuit Dallas

Pearce took the top two spots, while Sebastian Suwanda finished third with a time of 4:57.90. Grant Wilton (4:59.83), JP McCosker (5:03.18), and Noah Ruhl (5:10.68) all secured Regional spots.

200 Freestyle Relay

Women: Richardson Pearce (Lilah Jarvis, Olivia Grossman, Annabelle Goodno, Lily Ruth Scott)

Men: Jesuit Dallas (Sam Kennington, Sebastian Suwanda, Luke Lary, Jonah Ruhl)

Jesuit took its second relay win of the meet with a time of 1:27.29. Jonah Ruhl led off in a 20.97. He handed it off to Luke Lary, who split a 22.10. Suwanda was third, splitting a 22.57, and Sam Kennington anchored in a 22.15.

100 Backstroke

Women: Olivia Grossman, JJ Pearce

Men: Henry Scott, JJ Pearce

The Rangers placed second through fourth in this event. Drew Shippey took second with a time of 56.26. Peter Hasik (59.19) and Michael Tobin (59.21) took third and fourth, respectively. George Weaver ’26 rounded out the top five with a time of 1:01.60.

100 Breaststroke

Women: Abigail Reimer, Richardson

Men: Porter Pope, Jesuit Dallas

Sophomore Porter Pope secured his first-ever individual District title with a time of 1:00.97. Grant Wilton was just behind with a best time of 1:01.44. Michael Sanmiguel ’27 took fourth with a time of 1:06.27, and Michael Schwabe ’27 became a first-time qualifier, finishing fifth with a time of 1:07.93.

400 Freestyle Relay

Women: JJ Pearce (Hannah Curry, Annabelle Goodno, Georgia Rick, Rhiannon Harris)

Men: Jesuit Dallas (Luke Lary, Sebastian Suwanda, Sam Kennington, Jonah Ruhl)

The Ranger squad closed out Districts with a dominating performance in this event. Luke Lary led off with a 48.12. He passed it off to fellow Senior Sebastian Suwanda, who split a 49.80. Sam Kennington finished third with a 48.55, and Jonah Ruhl anchored in a 46.37.

Looking Ahead

The Rangers have just two more meets remaining on their schedule. Jesuit will look for back-to-back Regional titles at the UIL Region 2-6A Championships, February 6-7 at the LISD Westside Aquatic Center. Qualifiers will advance to the UIL 6A State Championships. State will take place February 20-21 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.

Outside of Jesuit, he is involved at church and does club swimming at Dallas Mustangs Swim Team. His two favorite Netflix shows are Suits and Designated Survivor.
