On November 15, 2025, Jesuit hosted a banquet for the Sports Hall of Fame. During this banquet, they recognized the 2001 Jesuit rugby team, who won a state championship, and inducted Kingsley Bryce ’11, Darius Hill ’15, and Bernie Lancaster ’06 into the Jesuit Sports Hall of Fame.
The 2001 Rugby Team
The 2001 rugby team is now almost 25 years old and set many records back in their day. On the night of the Sports Hall of Fame, the team reunited to celebrate their remarkable season. I asked Coach Upton ’02, who was a player for the team (and coaches football and rugby now) about the night. He said that it was special because you could only see your class in reunions, and with the rugby team, you couldn’t see the juniors if you were a senior and vise versa. Additionally, he said:
“That team is something that completely changed my life. I 100% would not be doing what I am doing now if it was not for the men on that team and the support staff that helped us. I think the most telling thing about that celebration was that it was not just the members of the team that we brought to the ceremony. We made sure our team Student Trainer was there so she could be recognized with us; Mr. Ochs was there for always driving us all over the State of Texas, and even Mr. Donahue was there for the support he had given us even when he was the principal of the school.”
Kingsley Bryce ’11 – Soccer
Kingsley Bryce was one of three players inducted to the Sports Hall of Fame. Kingsley put up 14 goals in Jesuit’s 2010 undefeated championship run as well as the title of the number one team in the nation; he was also crowned UIL MVP. In college, he earned titles such as A-10 Rookie of the Week and Most Outstanding Player of the A-10 Championships. As a sophomore and junior in college, he had eight game winning goals, which was the most in his conference. He earned himself a Second Team All-Conference during his junior season and led his team to a national ranking of eight. Kingsley would end up being drafted by the Chicago Fire in the second round of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft and debut with the St. Louis FC on June 13, 2025.
Darius Hill ’15 – Baseball
Darius Hill led Jesuit to their first National Championship in 2015 and racked up a ton of accolades while at Jesuit. Darius Hill was a two-time UIL District Offensive MVP and three-time Perfect Game Preseason All-American. After having a .460 batting average in high school, Hill went on to West Virginia University, where he currently holds records in career starts, at bats, and doubles. Hill was one of the most accomplished athletes in WVU’s baseball program. Hill’s awards at college included a two-time ABCA East All-Region First Team selection, three-time All-Big 12 pick, and a three-time Academic All-Big 12 honoree. He ended up getting drafted by the Iowa Cubs in the 2019 draft and is currently playing AAA with the Cubs.
Bernie Lancaster ’06 – Tennis
Bernie Lancaster led Jesuit’s tennis team to four straight UIL District Team Championships, while being the District Singles Champion three times in a row. In his sophomore year, Bernie was the first Jesuit tennis player to qualify for the UIL State Championship, as there are only eight slots at State, and remains the only Ranger to qualify three times. At St. Edward’s University, Bernie earned himself 69 wins in singles and doubles and helped St. Edward’s finish within the top 20 in the ITA Division II National Rankings. Additionally, he led St. Edward’s to one of their best finishes in the 2010 NCAA South Central Regional by making it to the Elite Eight. Lastly, Bernie was a three-time All-Heartland Conference nominee while at St. Edward’s.
Conclusion
All of these former Jesuit athletics have made tremendous impact on all of their respective sports. Their hard work has forever cemented their name within Jesuit. Come later 2026, Jesuit will continue to add more inductees as the Hall of Fame continues to grow.
