Junior and Senior Homecoming | Dancing, Poker, and Top Gun, Oh My!

-

On Saturday, October 18, the juniors and seniors of Jesuit headed to campus for the annual homecoming dance to enjoy an evening of dancing, music, casino games, and food.

After hours of setup by members of Student Congress, students and their dates began showing up to Jesuit around 7:00, where they had the choice between dancing in the Terry Center, playing tabletop games in the cafeteria, or milling about in the Xavier Mall.

Senior Costumes

The seniors came in an array of different costumes, with several Top Gun: Maverick flight suits making an appearance. Others included Anton Chigurh from No Country for Old Men, Jay Gatsby of The Great Gatsby fame, and Fred Flintstone from his namesake show. Shervin Khalilkhani ’26, who himself went as Tyler Durden from Fight Club, had this to say:

“I really enjoyed seeing all the costumes everyone had.”

Tabletop Games

Attendees had access to a number of different games ranging from family favorites like Scrabble to the popular poker tables. Many spent most of time at the dance either playing or waiting to play a few rounds of anything from Scrabble to Texas Holdem. Of the activities in the cafeteria, Cayden Bartusek ’26 said,

“They were a lot of fun and I’m really glad I went.”

The Dance Floor

The wide-open space of the Terry Center provided an ideal area for the dance floor, where attendees enjoyed fan-favorites like “Cotton-eye Joe” from a playlist composed by members of Student Congress, alongside an impressive display of lights from the DJ stand.

Wrapping Up

Around 8:30, most students began to leave as busses began to arrive. The Juniors can now look forward to another great Homecoming next year. But unfortunately, it was the end of the last Jesuit homecoming for the seniors. We’ll end off with a quote from Sam Kennington ’26, who said of the whole event:

“It was a great experience that really felt fitting for my last homecoming at Jesuit.”
